Minutes of a Sales Tax Sub-Committee Meeting October 18, 2018 George Deibert – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Dennis Dovel Megan Johnson – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Mary Herrington A motion was made by Megan Johnson and seconded by George Deibert to accept and approve the minutes from the July meeting. Dennis reviewed the two-potential park designs for Wilbur Young Park to the committee. He explained that the property that Yong Park sits on is shared with the Blue Springs School District. Therefore, the school district was taken into consideration when creating the renderings for the possible new design. The new design will include an additional entrance into the park, extended trails, enlarged playgrounds, new lights for the softball fields, an improved restroom building, reconfiguration of the tennis courts and new sand volleyball courts. Committee members and Parks and Rec staff then discussed possible themes for the two playgrounds. Images and videos of potential themes were presented to the group and committee members expressed their favorites. Dennis gave an update on the 2018-19 tax projects. Contracts for Old Mill are all in place or are being worked on. Additionally, trail work at James Walker School Park is already complete and the trail at Moreland School Road should be completed in about two weeks. Dennis reminded the committee that new park signage will be installed at Old Mill Park and Young Park once renovations have been completed. Staff and committee members then reviewed the new signs.
