Program/Activity Spotlight: Derek Mayden presented on Park Maintenance Spotlight. He explained how this
works is a list is accumulated of several things that need to be complete for each park. All maintenance staff reports
to the same park for that one day and everyone conquers different projections around the park. This provides a sense
of accomplishment and shows progress of each park getting designated specific time and care. Derek explained that
this is goal oriented, and the tasks must come to completion. The goal is to bring staff together to work as a team and
visibility adds accountability. So far Rotary Park, Pink Hill Park, and Hidden Valley Park have all had major
projects crossed off the list. What staff has learned is prioritizing all other duties to be finished prior to this spotlight
day so that the main focus is just on the park chosen. A clear understanding of what is being accomplished is
established. Eventually, being able to split staff up into two separate teams will help so that more than one park is
completed at a time.
Finances: None.
Staff Reports: Staff reviewed their reports.
Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman’s Report: None
City Council Liaison Report: None
Old Business: Dennis presented an update on the Blue Springs Aquatic Center. Staff continues to meet with the
design team to develop the new aquatic facility. Many studies are underway as well including a parking study and
traffic study. The team has developed a new concept and the architect team is in the process of designing the
connection point, outdoor aquatics, indoor aquatic, locker rooms, meeting rooms and support space. The design still
maintains all the components originally laid out in the conceptual design, just the location of the connection and how
the space related to one another has changed.
New Business: None
Miscellaneous: None
As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Megan Johnson and seconded by Ken
Horrell.
