Blue Springs Public Art Commission Regular Meeting Thursday, November 19, 2015 City Hall East Conference Room 3:00 to 5:00OPM AGENDA Attending: PAC: Ramon Magee, Greta Hoener, Carolyn Gordanier, Barbara Landes, Kathe White, Eleanor Frasier, Steve Willman, Kim Nakahodo. Selection Panelists: Kim Roan, Jan Duffendack, Randy Cooper, Greta Hoener Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 3:00PM Minutes of October Meeting. The minutes were approved as emailed. Purpose of Meeting: To interview the four finalists for the “Firefighter Spirit” temporary public art exhibit in 20 minutes interviews followed by 10 minutes of discussion. 1. We first determined that we would not consider John Banks second proposed sculpture “The Fighting Three” and would consider Brandon Collins works instead so that we would have four artists in the exhibit 2. We discussed the questions to be asked of each finalist and who would interview. 3. Ramon showed images of the works of the artists as we interviewed 4. Documentation of each of the artist’s credentials guided additional question 5. The schedule of interview and procedures are added to the minutes. Information from the interviews and discussion resulted in the following: Brandon Collins: The consensus was that we preferred the piece with the three arms and fire. Brandon will continue to refine the drawing before it will be approved. The bronze will probably be 3 ft tall plus base or pedestal which would put it in the cost range of $15,000 to $17,500. He described his methodology for creating the art, the expected patina, and sculptural details. The name will be determined as part of approval. The site will be determined later. He will be involved in installation and plans to attend the dedication. John Banks: His work will be “Tolling of the Bell” and will be a 6’ bronze with steel pedestal. We will also provide a base as he outlined. The listed cost is $17,000 but he is willing to negotiate. No decision was made as to site. He will bring artwork for installation and hopes to attend Dedication Nathan Pierce: His sculpture is “Fighters Will” which is approximately 5’x 4’x4’ made of epoxy structured steel. The base would be approximately 2 to 21/2 feet high. We discussed color and asked if he could duplicate the yellow paint used by BS firetrucks This decision would be a factor in whether the piece might be purchased. The proposed cost is $9000 and open to negotiation. He plans to install and to attend the dedication. We expect the site to be Station #2. Noah Brock: His work, “The Ultimate Truth”, was previously shown in exhibitions in Chattanooga TN and Ocala, FL. The 6” sculpture is blue powder coated steel with a wrinkle texture. The cost is $10,000 but will negotiate. We discussed possible bases. Location will be Station #5.
