Minutes of a Regular Public Art Commission Meeting February 13, 2019 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Public Art Commission was held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Ramon Magee – Present City Council Liaison: Dale Carter- Absent Jeff Carpenter – Present Community Member: Barbara Landes Kathe White – Present Larry Randall - Absent Greta Hoener – Absent Kerri Cole – Absent A motion was made by Kathe White and seconded by Ramon Magee to accept the Minutes of the January 9 meeting; it passed unanimously. Public Art Commission Financial Report: The financial report was presented for review. Information/Updates/Status: “Fire, Earth and Water” restoration- Eleanor contacted Janet Kummerlein to discuss the removal of the artwork at Adams Pointe Conference Center. She has requested that the artwork be returned to her for cleaning and then it can be moved to a safer place in the building as long as it is not damaged by the sunlight. “Public Art in Blue Springs”- Eleanor has given the document to Kerri to review and determine what additional information is needed to create the new book. We know that missing information will include new photos of artwork from “Capricious” and “Momentum”. People’s Choice for “Capricious”- Jeff presented an image of the proposed certificate and it was approved. The certificate will be presented to the artist when he comes to de-install his art. Presentations- Ramon and Eleanor met with the Blue Springs Leadership class on Feb 14 to provide information about the PAC. The PAC will also make an annual presentation to the City Council at the March 18 meeting. The Conservation and Restoration Policy will also be before Council for approval at this meeting. MACAA grant for 2019- Eleanor reported that PAC will receive a $750 grant from MACAA. The funds will be used toward the “Momentum” exhibit brochure, DVD, and Dedication events. Placing Artworks on Private Property update- Ramon has been researching this topic and the PAC will continue to work towards developing policies and procedures for City Council consideration to allow for public art to be displayed on private property. “Momentum” Thirteenth Temporary Public Art Exhibit: Justin is working with the artists to determine dates and times for the artists to install the art. The bases will need to be poured prior to the art installations, however the weather is proving to be a major factor in getting this accomplished. Justin will inquire with the Adams Ponte Golf Clubhouse for a Thursday, June 13 dedication ceremony. This will be combined with “The Ultimate Truth” dedication at the same time. Other aspects of the “Momentum” exhibit will be discussed at the March meeting. Other Business- : 1  Justin reported that there will be a group photo of the Public Art Commission members taken at the March meeting.
