Minutes of a Regular Public Art Commission Meeting June 8, 2022 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Public Art Commission was held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 3:30pm at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present City Council Liaison: Jerry Kaylor Ramon Magee – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Taylor Beller - Present Pam Vaughan – Absent Jeff Carpenter – Absent Kathy Cornelius- Present Robert Buzan- Absent A motion was made by Ramon and seconded by Taylor to accept the Minutes of the May meeting with edits made as discussed; it passed unanimously. Financial Report. The financial report was available for review. There were no questions “Regenerate” Thirteenth Public Art Temporary Exhibit -Dedication of ReGenerate Exhibit is Thursday, June 23 beginning at 5:00 for refreshments and 6:00 for program. PAC members should arrive by 4:45 -Jake Balcom will represent the artists. The other three had obligations that prevented them from attending. Each sent an artist response to be read. Eleanor will assign readers. -The email invitation was approved. Justin will arrange for sending and receiving RSVPs. -The program was approved which identified order of speakers. There were some last minute changes which were noted. -Eleanor asked Taylor and Pam to be responsible for the Book table. Kathy and Jeff will pass out programs and direct people to refreshments. Eleanor and Ramon will be greeters. Justin will bring books and signage. Eleanor will bring cloth and signup sheet -There was general discussion of issues in the brochure printing and distribution by printer. “20 + 1 Public Art in Blue Springs -Discussion related to the distribution of books to be sent to artists, selection panelists, and others. Eleanor asked Pamela and Taylor to assist with placing books in mailing envelopes and labels. -Discussion related to whether to participate in Corks and Canvas on Saturday, June 10. It was decided that PAC would not have a table this year Information/Status/Updates -Status of “The Visit”. Justin and Eleanor met with Tracy Marcotte at St. Mary’s Health Center regarding the possible placement of “The Visit”. -Light for Mosaic Art. Still in the process of selecting a light for “Art of the State”. -Veterans Way Memorial. Eleanor encouraged PAC members to visit Veterans Way Memorial to see flags along the walkways on Flag Day (June 14) and during Independence Day weekend (July 1-4). The flags will be placed the Thursday before these scheduled dates. -Art Maintenance. Ramon reported that he will be working with Larry Randall and Roscoe Righter for identifying top candidates for art maintenance. He is trying to recruit others. -Status of “Diversity-Inclusion Mural”. Discussion related to the decision of Rotary Club of Blue Springs to cancel plans for the “Diversity-Inclusion” mural at 11th and Main. Jerry Kaylor presented information and views on the standards that PAC has set regarding the Call to Artist and selection process for placing art and that Blue Springs is noted for public art in the State. Visitors/Public Comment: -None 1 Other Business- -None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Taylor and seconded by Pam. Please let our office know by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, if you will not be attending the meeting. 1) Call to Order 2) Approval of minutes of the May 11, 2022 meeting 3) Financial Report 4) “Regenerate”- 13th Temporary Art Exhibit -Dedication- Thursday, June 23 beginning at 6pm for refreshments/music PAC should arrive by 5:15 to help host, guide guests to reception, pass out programs, extend thanks -Brochure Mailing and Distribution Need any namens/address not on mailing list Make sure all speakers receive brochure Need to provide City VIPs with brochures -Invitation emailed with RSVP (approve) -Invitation Mailed or Distributed (approve) -Program for Dedication (approve) Confirm with speakers time to attend, provide statement, meet the public Check CG sound system -Book table for 20+1 Years of Public Art(two volunteers for table, Eleanor will provide cover and sign) 5) “20 + 1 Years of Public Art in Blue Springs” book -Volunteers needed to place books in mailing envelopes and attach labels (week of June 27) -Volunteers needed for Corks and Canvas(June 18).
