Minutes of a Regular Public Art Commission Meeting May 10, 2023 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Public Art Commission was held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 3:30pm at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present City Council Liaison: Kent Edmundson Ramon Magee – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Taylor Beller - Present Pam May – Absent Kamera Meaney- Present Kathy Cornelius- Present Cydney Carl- Absent A motion was made by Ramon and seconded by Kathy to accept the Minutes of the April meeting as presented; it passed unanimously. Financial Report. The financial report was available for review. There were no questions. Art Maintenance and Conservation Ramon provided updates on the plans for art maintenance. The next step will be to determine those artworks that need conservation and what is involved. “Swoop” Art Enhanced Chimney Swift Tower PAC discussed having the Tower placed along ADP in the area of Willow Tree Park, 4152 SE Adams Dairy Parkway. The Dedication is planned for Thursday, June 22. Eleanor asked that Pam, Kamera and Taylor meet with her after the meeting to set a date to discuss plans for the Dedication (mailer, mailing list, program, and refreshments). 14th Temporary Public Art Exhibit Eleanor and Ramon provided information about what is involved in planning an exhibit. Each member was given a draft copy of a Call to Artist. Eleanor explained the importance of theme, location, and schedule. Ramon reported on using CAFÉ to enable artists applications and that typically will have 50 or more to consider. PAC need to select two external persons to be on the Selection panel. Provide names and contact information for any recommendations. For the June meeting, each member is to bring suggestions for a theme to fit the planned location along ADP and Moreland School Road. “New Growth” Art Purchase Artist, Amie Jacobsen, has been paid for the sculpture and Parks will arrange to take the artwork from Colonial Gardens and store it until it is placed on the site at City Hall. Status/Information/Updates --“New Growth” will be installed in front of City Hall in the near future. PAC will need to plan a Dedication and will discuss this at a future meeting --Colonial Gardens Purchase of “Lily No. 1”. Status is uncertain. --Veterans Way Memorial Flyer—Cydney presented ideas based on a meeting of Kathy, Cydney and Eleanor. They will continue to meet to finalize the planned flyer. Eleanor stated that she had asked “Doc” Golden to help with future plans and to join when meeting with Meyers Funeral Home. PAC will also need to touch base with Truman Heartland Community Foundation to inform them of the plan to accept donations for the Veterans Way Memorial Fund. --Public Art on City Website. PAC needs to provide certain information to add to the website. --Veterans Way Memorial Flag Schedule. Eleanor provided the schedule that flags are placed along the walkways. She encouraged members to visit the Memorial when flags are available. --"Cats on Main Dedication.” PAC members are invited to attend the Dedication on May 23 at City Hall parking lot. 1 Visitors/Public Comment: -None Other Business- -None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Kamera and seconded by Taylor.
