Minutes of a Regular Public Art Commission Meeting July 12, 2023 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Public Art Commission was held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 3:30pm at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present City Council Liaison: Kent Edmundson Ramon Magee – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Taylor Beller - Present Pam May – Present Kamera Meaney- Present Kathy Cornelius- Present Cydney Carl- Present A motion was made by Ramon and seconded by Pam to accept the Minutes of the June meeting as presented; it passed unanimously. Financial Report. The financial report was available for review. There were no questions. Veterans Way Memorial Flyer. --Cydney provided an updated draft of the Flyer which gave directions to the donor on how to write the check. Suggestion was “THCF—Veterans Memorial”. Other changes were that the QR code that described the Memorial was moved to the back of the card where all other info about the Memorial was placed. --Next steps will be to meet with Meyers Funeral Home and THCF representative so that everyone is satisfied with the flyer before printing. “Swoop” Art Enhanced Chimney Swift Tower --The invitation mailer has been sent. Justin worked with Print Graphics to arrange for printing so as to take advantage of mailing before the postage rates went up. --The draft program for the “Swoop” dedication was reviewed. Justin will arrange for 50 programs to be printed. --The Dedication will be Thursday, July 20 at Vesper Hall at 5:30. PAC members should be at Vesper Hall by 5:00. The Dedication group will meet after the PAC meeting to determine all duties and what to expect in terms of refreshments and room setup. --Justin reported that we were on target to get the Chimney Swift Tower in place before the Dedication. 14th Temporary Public Art Exhibit --Ramon reviewed the draft of the Call to Artist and explained the process involved in working with CAFÉ. He asked that any suggestions for jurors be sent to him as this decision must be made when submitted to CAFE. He needs name and all contact information for potential jurors. Ramon motioned and Taylor second that PAC utilize Café for the Call To Artist and authorize Justin to register and pay for Café with Public Art Commission funds. Motion passed unanimously --Eleanor, Ramon and Justin will complete the Call to Artist with specific review of the missing information and the important deadline dates that the artists need to know. --PAC will review the Call to Artist and have discussion of what to expect at the August meeting. Status/Information/Updates --Art Maintenance – Ramon gave an update on the progress of art maintenance and what has been accomplished. He reported several artworks need additional conservation and this will need to be continually addressed in budget planning. --“New Growth”—Eleanor is still seeking a potential donor for this artwork. --Public Art on City Website. PAC needs to provide certain information to add to the website. This is needed by the time to go live on CAFÉ in September. --Veterans Way Memorial Flag Schedule. Kent reported that there was a problem with placing the new City flags on 4th of July. He asked that Justin provide the schedule that the small walkway flags are placed so that both sets of flags are in place for patriotic holidays. 1 Visitors/Public Comment: -None Other Business- -None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Pam and seconded by Taylor.
