Public Art Commission

Minutes of a Regular Public Art Commission Meeting January 10, 2024 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Public Art Commission was held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 3:30pm at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present City Council Liaison: Kent Edmondson Ramon Magee – Absent Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Taylor Beller - Present Community Member: Jill Frasier Pam May – Absent Kamera Meaney- Present Kathy Cornelius- Present Cydney Carl- Present A motion was made by Taylor and seconded by Kathy to accept the Minutes of the November meeting as presented; it passed unanimously. Financial Report. The financial report was available for review. There were no questions. “Seasons” 14th Temporary Public Art Exhibit --Status of Contracts. Justin reported that the artists had signed contracts and their first payment was arranged for. --Eleanor asked if the logo used for initial planning was acceptable for the brochure and plaque. PAC will decide at the next meeting. Veterans Way Flyer -- Eleanor stated that the Flyer Committee was formed: Melodie Chrisman from Meyers Funeral Home, Ed “Doc” Golden for Veterans, Cydney, Eleanor and Justin. --The Flyer Committee was scheduled to meet at 1:30 previous to the PAC meeting but was cancelled. Plan to re- schedule before the next PAC meeting. “New Growth” Dedication --The artwork was purchased by the Blue Springs Art League. The organization is having their Spring Event luncheon on Thursday, April 18 and would like the dedication be on that date (no time has yet been determined for the dedication). --Dedication Invitation. Kathy suggested that we use a similar method and format for invitations as was used in “Cultivate” and “Swoop”. Justin said he would arrange for a draft to review at the next meeting. --Mailing List. The Dedication will have a more limited audience since the Art League is the sole donor. However, PAC will send invitations to former PAC members. Selection Panel members, major patrons of public art, and City officials. --Program Design. Discussion was who would be invited to be speakers at the event. Since the audience will be standing, PAC needs to plan for a short event. Maintenance of Artworks -Justin reported that Ramon, Eleanor and he met to discuss the request from the City for a line in the budget for maintenance of artwork. A five year plan was created which considers general care and conservation needs of all artworks during this period and it has been sent to the City for consideration.
