Minutes of a Regular Public Art Commission Meeting February 14, 2024 A regular meeting of the Blue Springs Public Art Commission was held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 3:30pm at the Fieldhouse. The Chairman called the meeting to order. Eleanor Frasier – Present City Council Liaison: Kent Edmondson Ramon Magee – Present Parks Dept. Staff: Justin Stuart Taylor Beller - Absent Pam May – Present Kamera Meaney- Absent Kathy Cornelius- Present Cydney Carl- Absent A motion was made by Kathy and seconded by Pam to accept the Minutes of the January meeting as presented; it passed unanimously. Financial Report. The financial report was available for review. There were no questions. “Seasons” 14th Temporary Public Art Exhibit --Ramon provided a review of the four artworks and artists. Justin reported that the bases are in place for the artworks which will be placed along Adams Dairy Parkway near Moreland School Road the last week of March. --Justin reported that he expected artist photos, artist statements and signatures of artists will be available for the brochure either when the artists bring the art or in the near future., --The logo design for “Seasons” will continue to be used on the brochure. --There was discussion of whether to use the current City Council listing or the new one as of the Citywide election on April 2. The decision was that the City Council that provided the funding for the fiscal year that the art exhibit occurred would be listed on the brochure. --The date and location for the Dedication was discussed. Justin preferred to use a City site, preferably Adams Pointe Golf Clubhouse, which has been used for several other dedications. He will check to determine availability. PAC would like to inform the artists of the date and location when they bring their art so that they can plan to attend if possible. “New Growth” Dedication --The Dedication of “New Growth” will be Thursday, April 18 at 1:30 at City Hall. Blue Springs Art League, which is the sole donor of the artwork, will be invited to attend along with selected donors, past PAC members, and others as requested. --The mailing listing will primarily be those invited to the “Swoop” dedication, but if PAC members have a suggested invitee, send the information of name and address to Justin. --Plans are underway for determining the speakers. Hopefully the artist, Amie Jacobsen, will be able to attend. --PAC will need the plaque by the time of the Dedication. Eleanor reported that the plaque will be similar to those when we have a sole donor, such as “Breath” or “Moving the Stars”. Eleanor and Justin will arrange for the plaque. Status/Information/Updates --Annual Meeting Report. Justin reported that PAC will need to submit an annual report for the last fiscal year to the City Council by the first of April. Discussion was Ramon and Eleanor would create the report for approval at the March meeting. --Veterans Way Memorial Flyer—PAC were pleased to see the revised flyer created by Cydney after discussion with Melodie Chrisman at Meyers Funeral Home. Justin reported that he had just received notice that Melodie was retiring in the near future. This may impact plans for the flyer until we know the replacement person at Meyers. --Art Maintenance Update. Ramon reported that there will be some maintenance care when the weather improves in the Spring as contracted previously. --Eleanor invited PAC members to attend the Blue Springs Art League annual Fine Arts Show on March 2 and 3. 1 Visitors/Public Comment: -None Other Business- --None As there was no further business, a motion for adjournment was made by Ramon and seconded by Pam.
