Racetrack Forest Assessment Results The Department of Planning and Sustainability received a report from KCI Technologies, Inc. with the results of a forest assessment of the woods around the racetrack. They identified six unique forest stands and looked at floodplains, wetlands, invasive species, specimen trees, and the general health of the ecosystem. They found 58 specimen trees (trees with a diameter at breast height, or DBH, over 30 inches or having 75% of the DBH of the current State champion of that species), and four of the stands had relatively few invasive species. They are all worthy of protection, while the other two were recommended for invasives treatment and regeneration. This is something to keep in mind as plans for the racetrack develop. The full report is available by contacting Tiffany Wright (301-809-3043 or twright@cityofbowie.org). City of Bowie
