• 20 075 Mayor: Request for Authorization to Accept the Provisions of Section 419 of the Acts of
1998, Chapter 194 and the Intermunicipal Agreement For Cooperative Recycling on the South
Shore or take up any action relative thereto
Nicole Taub, Chief of Staff stated a request to essentially authorize the town’s participation in the
South Shore Recycling Collaborative. It follows the theory of safety in numbers presenting greater
leverage in recycling and waste management.
Jeffery Kunz, Director of Trash & Recycling stated this is correct there is strength in numbers. We have
held out in the past from joining but we need to make an investment in the future. We have begun a
task force in recycling. The membership fee is $4,850 per year. I request your support.
Councilor Mackin asked if we join will this change our day to day operations.
Mr. Kunz stated this will not change the operations at this time for at least the first year.
Councilor Flaherty asked about cost savings.
Mr. Kunz said we have been working with Weymouth and Quincy and we have saved already with
joining forces.
Councilor Ryan stated this is exactly the type of team approach that will benefit the Town of Braintree.
Motion was read by Councilor Mackin.
MOTION: That the Town accept Section 419 of the Acts of 1998, Chapter 194, and the Intermunicipal
Agreement for Cooperative Recycling on the South Shore, which provide for membership in the South
Shore Recycling Collaborative.
