Braintree Town Council MEMBERS Meredith Boericke, Chairwoman Committee of Ways & Means Charles Ryan, Vice-Chair One JFK Memorial Drive Donna Connors, Member Braintree, Massachusetts 02184 Julia Flaherty, Member Steven Sciascia, Member MINUTES Tuesday, January 5, 2021 A meeting of the Committee of Ways & Means was held Remote via Zoom Webinar, on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 6:30p.m. Councilor Boericke was in the Chair. Clerk of the Council, Susan M. Cimino conducted the roll call. All votes were taken by Roll Call Vote. Present: Meredith Boericke, Chairwoman Charles Ryan, Vice-Chairman Donna Connors, Member Julia Flaherty, Member Steven Sciascia, Member Also Present: Nicole Taub, Chief of Staff Thomas Kent, Planning Board alternate Approval of Minutes • None Old Business • None January 5, 2021 Ways & Means Committee 1 of 2 New Business • 20 081 Mayor: Appointment of Thomas Kent to the Planning Board or take up any action relative thereto Nicole Taub stated this is for an appointment as the Planning Board alternate due to the appointment of William Grove as Planning Board member at the end of 2020. Mr. Kent brings to the Planning Board a wealth of knowledge particularly in the financial industry. Mr. Kent has lived in Braintree for over 40 years and sat on the board at Thayer Academy. I have a lot to learn but I am ready to roll up my sleeves. I think it would be a great idea to have Braintree have bio-tech businesses but be responsible and have it maintain its town feel. Councilors were mentioning the hope Mr. Kent would keep the residential areas for the residents and have the businesses in the commercial areas where they belong. The Planning Board can be given many controversial decisions to hear and we ask you listen to the residents. Motion read by Councilor Ryan for favorable recommendation to the full Council Order 20 081. MOTION: Upon the request of his honor, the Mayor, the Town of Braintree, through the Braintree Town Council, and in accordance with Section 3-3 of the Charter of the Town of Braintree has approved the appointment of Thomas Kent to the Planning Board. Motion: by Councilor Ryan for favorable recommendation to the full Council Order 20 076 Second: by Councilor Connors Roll Call Vote: For (5–Boericke, Connors, Flaherty, Ryan, Sciascia), Against (0), Absent (0), Abstain (0) It was unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:49p.m. by Roll Call Vote.
