MINUTES OF THE CITY OF BRISTOL, TENNESSEE SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING January 21,2014 CALL TO ORDER: The City of Bristol, Tennessee City Council meeting was called to order by Mayor Michelle Dolan on Tuesday, January 2I,20I4, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Annex. ROLL CALL: Present: Mayor Michelle Dolan, Vice Mayor Lea Powers, Councilwoman Margaret Feierabend, Councilman Chad Keen, and Councilman Jack Young. Others Present: Interim City Manager William Sorah; City Attorney Jack Hyder; City Recorder Tara Musick; and members of City Staff. COUNCIL ACTIONS: Selection of City Manaser Mayor Michelle Dolan discussed the City Manager selection process. Council selected The Mercer Group to conduct the City Manager recruitment process. The search was conducted nationally with over fifty candidates applying for the position. The candidate pool was narrowed down to a group for interviews and then further narrowed to two individual candidates. Vice Mayor Lea Powers made a motion to select William Sorah as the new City Manager. Councilman Chad Keen seconded the motion. Vice Mayor Powers spoke in favor of 'William Sorah's qualifications for the position. Councilwoman Feierabend discussed working with three prior City Managers and that she looks forward to working with him as part of a team. Councilman Young mentioned inquiring of Mr. Sorah's peers and the past few months with Mr. Sorah serving as Interim City Manager as a good test run for the position. Councilman Keen commented on Mr. Sorah's communication style with both Council and staff. Mayor Dolan also commented on the growth that the City has experienced in the past six months and the need for a seamless transition in management at this time. The Mayor also noted that she had noticed an increase in morale of the City. City Engineer Tim Beavers commented on Mr. Sorah's experience and knowledge of the City. He also stated that his talents would be useful and that he was good a choice for the position. William Sorah was appointed as City Manager by a unanimous vote of Council.  Special City Council Meeting January 21,2014 Page2 of 2 Mrs, Karen Sorah was recognized as in attendance. Mr. Sorah thanked Council for their appreciation, use of fact based decisions, and their energy in serving the City.
