Bristol Tennessee Tree City USA Board Minutes March 16, 2015 Present: Mary Lou Sproles Susan Tanner Jean Lusardi Rebecca Smith David Hacker Absent: Jack Harmon Karen McSharry Staff: Jeremy Stout April Norris Mike Musick I. Call to Order – Meeting called to order by Rebecca Smith at 5:12pm. II. Approval of November 17, 2014 minutes – Jean made the motion to approve the minutes with corrections. Becky seconded the motion. Motion carried. III. Old Business A. Arbor Day Celebration – The 2015 Arbor Day Celebration is to be held at Fairmount Elementary on April 24th. Mike advised that he is reaching out to the principal for the exact time and details. Typically it is held at 10am and he would like a strong board presence. B. Park Plantings- Jeremy advised that plantings have occurred at Haynesfield Park. Plantings also occurred throughout Steele Creek Park for the 50K Tree Planting. He said that the trees have been lost at a greater pace than they can be replaced but the approval of grants should help with the replacement. IV. New Business A. 50K Trees in Tennessee- March 14th- Although the weather was a hindrances to the planting of the trees, 75 trees were planted for the event throughout Steele Creek Park. The trees planted were a mixture of VA Pines, Shumard Red Oaks and Elder Berry. B. Tree Keepers 2015 Debrief- There was 11participants in attendance. Susan noted that the program was really great but we need to get the word out. Several suggestions were made on flyer placement for next year’s event. V. Staff Comments – None VI. Board Comments – Several members mentioned that they would not be able to attend the Arbor Day celebration because they would be at Garden Faire. Rebecca mentioned that we may want to look at moving our meetings to quarterly meetings or at least make sure we have enough subject matter before holding a meeting. Board attendance and Vacancies were mentioned. April will get the current list of Tree Board members and will start sending meeting reminders a few weeks in advance. VII. Meeting adjourned at 5:35pm.
