Minutes
CITY OF BRITT – BRITT IOWA – AUGUST 13th, 2019
The City Council of the City of Britt, Iowa met in pursuant to law and the rules of said Council in regular
session in the Council Chambers in City Hall at 6:00 o’clock P.M. the 13th day of August 2019. The meeting
was called to order by Mayor Arndorfer, and the following Council members were:
PRESENT: Stacy Swenson, Curt Gast, Karrie Wallen, Paul Verbrugge and Chad Luecht
ABSENT: None
ALSO PRESENT: Debra Sawyer-City Administrator, Mark Anderson-Chief of Police, Linda Friedow-Library
Director, Shirley Smidt, Pat Beyers and Jim Nelson
The Mayor presented the agenda and asked for a motion to approve. It was moved by Verbrugge and
seconded by Luecht to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
Karie Terhark from HueLife was present to facilitate the first day of the Strategic Planning Sessions. She
spent approximately 2.5 hours assisting in a historical scan preparing what they call the “Wall of
Wonder”. This is a powerful way to help the group reflect on the important events, accomplishments,
challenges, and opportunities we’ve had in the City of Britt. Along with that, it allows time to look at what also
conspired at the state and federal level and how that can influence decisions or culture shifts we see locally.
The planning session included a brief overview of the overview and introduction, brainstorming in small
groups, fill in the wall with ideas uncovered during the brainstorming exercise. Then the group identified the
trends and ended with reflection. The next sessions will be a 2-full day event starting at 1p.m. on Sunday,
August 25th and continues to Monday, August 26th, 2019 at 1p.m. Anyone is invited to attend. The 2-day
sessions will provide the information to be put into a new Strategic Plan for the City of Britt.
Mayor Arndorfer presented his recommendation for yearly salary increase. His recommendation is to cap
increases at 3%. It was moved by Gast and seconded by Verbrugge to cap all salary increases at 2% with the
exception of Sawyer, who will be moved to $65,000 as presented in her in the original offer of employment,
Weiland who will be getting a 1% increase and no increase to Harmon, Holbrook and Williams who recently
received raises to their salary. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
With no further business it was moved by Verbrugge and seconded by Luecht to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried by unanimous vote.
