Vote resulted: Yes – Tanski Yes – Wrost Not Present – Kobus Yes – Burns Recreation Commissioner Jack Abbruzzese gave the following report: Youth Sports Update We have eight total teams between youth baseball and softball this summer. Softball has two teams with strong numbers. The 18U team has sixteen players mostly made up of the high school JV team. Jason Westerhold is coaching and utilizing the high school varsity field. Practice began last week and games begin the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Special Events Memorial Day Parade Monday, May 26th. The parade starts at the Rec Center parking lot at 11am and ends at the stadium where the mayor will give his Memorial Day speech. Senior Center The north entrance to the Senior Center is in the process of having a sliding door installed. In the process of doing so, a hairline crack in the sandstone header was discovered. This project was put on hold to ensure the structure is intact. This project should be completed in early June. Senior Grass cutting program had eighty participants registered. Part time staff was trained to handle between 15-20 lawns per day approximately. Next year we are looking to install a new parking lot in the front of the building and a potential fitness area. Marquardt Park and Hurricane Alley: Spring soccer was a success at Hurricane Alley this spring. We lined three fields there to help alleviate some of the parking issues at Marquardt. We gave Marquardt a full season to rehabilitate. It was sodded and aerated and the grass came in very well. The stadium practice field was lined by Recreation Maintenance and the grass was cut by school Maintenance. We are discussing how the fields will be utilized in the fall. Page 3 of 5 Veteran’s Park: This project was underway approximately two weeks ago. It is set to be done in December. All demo is being completed now. There will be new park features added but the playground is staying the same otherwise. The pavilion will have an office and house the main park restrooms. The maintenance building will be where the playground and the parking lot meet in the corner. Privacy fencing and greenery will be added for resident privacy. The west facing patio of the pavilion will be large enough to house bands for concerts in the park. Sports court will be completely redone with a brand-new asphalt basketball court. Safety Town will become a pickle ball area. The tennis courts are being redone as well and will be designed as multipurpose courts. We are reusing the metal poles for the basketball hoops but will purchase new backboards and hoops. The sand volleyball area will now stay since the maintenance building is moving closer to the parking lot area. The Safety Town buildings will be moved over to the school property permanently. There will be no Safety Town this year due to the construction. There will be additional lighting and cameras as part of the project. Natatorium: We are at about 30% design for the pool project. This should be released by early June for companies to bid on the project. Applications will be turned in, narrowed down and then applicants will be interviewed. The rough goal is that construction will start in January 2026. Once we have a construction company under contract, we will have firmer timelines for the construction itself. Phase 1 will include everything indoors. There will be a new main pool deck, bulkhead, locker rooms, family changing room and a complete reorganization of the areas. The upstairs balcony will be our new fitness area. The kiddie pool area will be part of the main entrance of the building. An elevator will be added. This will take an estimate 8 – 12 months. After budget session this year we will have a better idea for phase 2 timelines. Phase two includes the spray ground area, a leisure pool, a slide and transforming the outdoor pool. Phase 1 will mean the Natatorium will be shut down for an entire year including the outdoor and indoor pool. The current staff offices will be moved by the pool and the remaining offices will be for storage or meeting rooms. Dog Park: This project is underway and will be put in over by the service garage. This will be done by September. Merenda and Jeff will run the dog park. As part of this project a six-foot fence will be put up to protect the service garage. Additional Items: Security cameras will be put up at Knights Commons and Brock Park.
