MINUTES Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Brownsville Event Center July 09, 2015 Present Leo Rosales – Parks Chairperson Derek Benavides – Members Tito Mata – Member Meri Heggie - Member Damaris McGlone – Parks Director Carlos Velica – Parks Staff 1) Meeting called to order by Parks Chairperson Leo Rosales at 12:57 p.m. 2) Approval of minutes • Minutes of last meeting (June 04, 2015) approved on a motion by Mr. Derek Benavides, seconded by Mrs. Meri Heggie, motion carried. 3) Chairperson’s Report • Parks Chairperson has nothing to report at this time. 4) Public Comment • Board member Mr. Mata handed out a schedule on the powerlifting for 2015, showing the association the Brownsville lifters will be competing and representing our city under. 5) a. Consideration and Action to approve the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Committee’s By-laws (Leo Rosales) • Board Member Mr. Benavides motions to tabled action item to approve the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board By-laws and move it next month’s Parks Advisory meeting on August 4th , seconded by Mr. Mata, motion carried. • Parks Director suggested that she would do a list of By-laws and have the board members highlight the ones they want and send them back for review. As soon as they are approved at the Parks Board meeting on August 4th, she will forward it to legal department for review and get it out to the Commission for their review and approval.  b. Consideration and Action to appoint a new Parks Chairperson to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (Leo Rosales) • Current Parks Chairperson Mr. Rosales commented that he would like to have nominations to appoint a new Parks Chairperson, since his term will be expiring in September. Board member Mrs. Heggie motions to nominate Mr. Derek Benavides, seconded by Mr. Tito Mata, motion carried to appoint Mr. Derek Benavides as new Parks Chairperson. Mr. Benavides accepts the nomination to become new Parks Chairperson starting in September. 6. Director’s Report • Parks Director Damaris commented that the Pros’ Consulting firm will be in Brownsville the week of August 3rd & 4th to discuss the final draft on the Parks Master Plan and would like to meet with the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board members to get their feedback before finalizing it. Suggested of moving the Parks Advisory Board meeting next month from Thursday, August 6th to August 4th in order to meet with Pro’s Consulting representatives. • Parks Chairperson requested that the Parks Advisory Board meeting be move to Tuesday, August 4th, so they are able to meet with Pro’s Consulting to discuss the Parks Master Plan. 7. Discussion Period • Parks Chairperson wanted the minutes to reflect for the record congratulating Damaris on being name new Parks Director. 8) Adjournment – meeting was adjourned at 1:10 p.m.
