MINUTES Parks and Recreation Advisory Meeting Recreation Center Conference Room June 10th, 2021 1. Determination of Quorum: Present Myrta I. Meeting called to order by Parks Chairperson Mr. Joe Lee Rubio at 12:01 p.m. ********************* 3. Pledge of Allegiance: United States Pledge * Texas Pledge • The pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge led by Parks Vice-Chairperson Mr. Rubio. ********************* 4. Public Comment Period: PLEASE NOTE The Public Comment Period is designated for Hearing Concerns Regarding City of Brownsville Public Policy or City of Brownsville Business that is not on the agenda. • None to report. ********************* 5. Approval of Minutes • Minutes of last meeting (April 8th, 2021) approved on a motion by Mr. Ben Del Angel, seconded by Mr. Adrian Delgado, motion carried. ********************* 6. Safety Concerns (Parks Advisory Board) • Board Member Mr. Del Angel commented that there is situation with the trails where it ends and stops; there are some sections of pieces of wood on the ground & are deteriorating by the bridge area on Alton Gloor & 802 and Price road that needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt. Also mention on having some bicycle safety concerns, if Damaris had any information on the BPAC committee having any meetings, Assistant Director Graciela Salazar said she would email them some information on the Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee and their contacts. • Parks Chairperson Mrs. Garza commented on some concerns at Windwood Park pertaining to a lot of repairs happening soon. ********************* 7. Discussion Period & Possible Action (15 minutes) a) Discussion, Consideration and Action to discuss having a board meeting in the month of July due to the 4th of July Holiday (Damaris McGlone) • After a brief discussion by the board members, on a motion by Board member Mr. Del Angel, seconded by Board member Mr. Leinart, motion carried to cancel the next board meeting in July. ********************* 8. Director’s Report (Graciela Salazar – Assistant PARD Director) • Assistant Parks Director Graciela Salazar gave a brief update on Parks operations, projects, Summer programs, KABOOM project, & park repairs. Also commented that the Aquatics Coordinator had resigned and the department is working on filling that position. Reported that The 4th of July event is happening and is less than a month away. (See attached reports) • Chairperson Mrs. Garza commented if the Parks department could share some of the flyers of Programs they are having with the board members. Also wanted to know when the youth leagues would be starting? Assistant Director Ms. Salazar commented that the league would be starting right after the summer. Mrs. Garza commented if they had any information for the Games of Texas, if they could send her an invite for any meetings they might be having soon. ********************* 10.
