MINUTES FOR THE MEETING OF THE RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 CALL TO ORDER: A meeting of the Recreation Advisory Board was held on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021 at the Community Center, 715 E Main Street and remotely via Google Hangouts. Mckenzie called the meeting to order at 7:35 am. Roll Call Members on call were chair Mckenzie Lyle, Dan Hamme, Danielle, Gary Crowder, Marcus Trustee, Rick Bieterman, Luke Urbine, Ashley Davis. Also in attendance were Recreation Director Earl Richmond, Program Coordinator Shane Basford, Recreation Specialist Ben Eichel, and Trustees Devin Rowe and as well as Leonard Davis of Peak to Peak Pickleball Club APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Danielle moved to approve the February 2021 minutes, as amended. Dan seconded the motion. Motion passes with unanimous approval. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA: Danielle moved to approve the March 2021 agenda as amended to include Board Pulse section. Dan seconded the motion. Motion passes with unanimous approval. PUBLIC COMMENT: No one for public comment New Business I. Program Report II. Facility & Special Events Report III. Program Assistant Report IV. Rec Director Report V. Community Center Area Facility Master Plan a. CU Denver Graduate Students chose BV as final planning/architect project b. Possible changes to building roles in block around Community Center if new municipal building is built. c. Looking for input on possible changes for Community Center and large concrete slab next to parking lot- indoor recreation space desired d. No timeline set yet VI. 14er Fest 2021 Updates and Support a. Fundraiser for BV Rec and other organizations in town b. New 50k race for this year c. Planning to host event, will adhere to COVID restrictions Ongoing Business I. Board Pulse a. Town possibly acquiring property in north area, questions on what would be done with property. Desire to not have property be “buy and dry” and instead have productive use; possibly recreation b. HS Nordic championships next week c. American Legion still planning fireworks  d. Memorial Hall is available for rental and open to public. Lots next to hall may be listed for sale in future e. Town looking to expand portfolio of water to diversity sources. Planning for generations in future. f. County and Town Fire Departments may combine in future. g. Farm phase II moving forward. Building warehouse to manufacture homes h. Golf course still not open for XC skiing i. Women’s workout on Tuesdays or Fridays- flexible schedule for attendance j. Weather generally improving, please let staff know of missing signs, damaged equipment k. Low water on river brings more people than high water. Last year private boat use was so high that if it continues, it may prompt more restrictions due to overuse. AHRA working to educate users on best time to float- weekday vs weekend etc. l. Peak Fitness starting second round of youth fitness classes and youth wrestling. Youth climbing program continues through Sunday. m. Picnic tables should be at pump track. New features at pump track are great. n. New streetlamps coming in Town, low lumen and down facing. II. Ice Update a. Salida ice season likely ending soon due to weather on Franz Lake. High participation with instructions, volunteers, multiple hockey groups. b. Looking to plan for BV ice at Paul’s lot. Looking to bring power and utilities to site, regular meetings with BV Rec staff. Weighing pros and cons of multiple sites. Ice coalition present to RAB in future with more developments III.
