Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting January 7, 2020 Meeting minutes In attendance: Sarah Ward, Cindy Lint, Maria Magana, Carol Doyle, Janice Burwash, Heidi Yeoman Approval of minutes from the December meeting: Heidi moved, Maria seconded, passed Communications:  December was a quiet month, staff worked on spending the remainder of 2019 budget.  About 100 children and adults attended Noon Year’s Eve, which was profiled in the January 1 Skagit Valley Herald.  A good January staff meeting has already been held.  Financial Report. Payroll should be completely correctly reported beginning in January. Unfinished Business:  Strategic Plan Draft was shared, along with new logos for the Library. Some time was spent looking these over, especially the implementation goals for 2020. Sarah and Janice will present the plan at the City Council on January 16, and at the retreat planned for the city, focusing on the initiatives for 2020.  Payroll update: the city is running dual bookkeeping on both platforms (Springbrook and Cassell), and will be solely Springbrook in 2020.  Board member recruitment back on. New Business:  The ambulance is currently being wrapped. Photos shown of how it will look. There will be a bubblemaker, and solar panels. A permanent parking space is being sought. It must be kept under cover.  A revision to the municipal code was shared, which strengthens the board’s authorization to write off bad debt after seven years. This was new language to Section 2.76.040. This should be approved at the next city council meeting.  Skagit Kids Read Week will be March 9-14, sponsored by the Rotary Club and the Children’s Museum. This event used to take place yearly but has been on hiatus since 2007. There will be an appearance by Barney Salzberg, author of “Crazy Hair Day”.
