● Jennifer continued hosting twice-monthly bilingual storytimes with families through
YouthNet. Around 40 children and caregivers attended each event to sing, read
bilingual books, and create a craft together.
● 25 Adult Grab & Go kits for growing basil plants were given out.
● Anime Club, Teen Book Club, and Teen Volunteer Squad are all going strong.
● Jennifer created a grab bag of approximately 75 items for a 4th grade class studying
history, government, and indigenous tribes.
● B-ESD partnership continues with a virtual storytime with Mrs. Watkins’ kindergarten
class; 24 students attended to learn about ocean creatures and food webs.
● Summer Reading programs are being planned.
● Genre-fication of DVD collection is progressing and will facilitate quicker selection of a
DVD of a desired genre.
● Financial Report: on-track and spending is still cautious.
Unfinished Business:
● Approval of bills: Cindy moved, Carol seconded, motion passed.
● Approval of weeds, discards, and lost and claimed returned: Carol moved, Maria
seconded, motion passed.
New Business:
● Partnerships Evaluation: In the past, agency cards have been issued only to
organizations based in Burlington. Juan and Jennifer have been working with some
institutions that serve Burlington Families, but are based in Mount Vernon. A new policy
permitting the issuance of agency cards to these institutions will be adopted soon, with
language borrowed from the Sno-Isle Library system.
● Reopening: Maybe June? Aiming for week of June 1 or June 14. Patrons will make
reservations to utilize the library, 3 days per week, 4 hours per day.
● Skagit Kids Read Week is this weekend. On May 8th, there will be a drive-thru event at
the Skagit Childrens Museum, along with a pop-up vaccination site and COVID testing.
Children will receive a copy of the book Call Me Tree.
● BPL librarian Jenny Cole is working with Burlington Healthy Community Coalition as the
group’s secretary. They have received a $125,000 per year for 5 years grant, which
requires a designated member of the group to attend trainings. Jenny is the designated
person for the group.
