Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting November 1, 2022 Meeting minutes In attendance: Sarah Ward, Cindy Lint, Maria Magana, Jenny Cole, Lettie Lance, Carol Doyle, Maria Yazzolino Approval of Minutes of October meeting: Lettie moved, Carol seconded, motion passed. Communications: ● October was a fun month for the library. The costume swap was a success, and is still on display. Another change to BPL is the installation of a TV monitor next to the door, which displays a slide-show of upcoming library events. ● Children’s and Teen activities continue apace. Eleanor hosted a visit from Lucille Umbarger Elementary Boys and Girls Club, and a new weekly craft station is located in the kids’ area. Sarah visited the BEHS Interact Club to share volunteer opportunities, and four teens signed up to volunteer regularly. ● Jenny Cole is participating in a project called “Co-Designing for Trust”, led by the Center for an Informed Public (UW). This project is aimed at creating digital library resources and rethinking educational approaches aimed at helping individuals understand and respond to the ways that misinformation can exploit minds, emotions, and social circumstances. More info in 2023. ● Financial Report is on-track. Library Repair and Maintenance is slightly overspent, (beam repair project); however the budget in total is slightly underspent. The 2023 budget process is going smoothly. Old Business/Monthly Tasks/Updates: ● Approval of bills: Cindy moved, Maria M. seconded, motion passed. It was noted that a bill was approved to create a plaque commemorating the mural project that was recently completed. The library initiated the order due to their familiarity with the process; it will not count against the library budget. ● Weeds and discards: Non-fiction and periodicals were weeded, in part to make room for the library of things. ● Policies and Procedures Manual Update is tabled while staff researches wording for meeting rooms policy.
