Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting December 6, 2022 Meeting minutes In attendance: Sarah Ward, Cindy Lint, Maria Magana, Lettie Lance, Carol Doyle, Maria Yazzolino Approval of Minutes of November meeting: Lettie moved, Maria M. seconded, motion passed. Communications: ● November was a busy month as new staff got up to speed. Eleanor continued outreach; including visiting preschools and daycares. The new Welcoming Library materials, concerning immigration; both from the immigrant and the welcoming community point of view, have been traveling to outreach locations. ● Teen Librarian Sarah held a session about stress management for teens, and the teen kindness club made over 50 dog and cat toys for the Humane Society of Skagit Valley. ● Cataloger and flower enthusiast Rachel G. hosted another successful arrangement class. ● Events for adults included a Skagit Valley Genealogical Society meeting, a WSU Master Gardening program, and natural dyeing class, and a new knitting group. ● Financials are on-track, working toward completing the year by spending out the budget. Old Business/Monthly Tasks/Updates: ● Approval of bills: Cindy moved, Carol seconded, motion passed. ● Weeds and discards: a robust list reflects the work of new staff members. ● Policies and Procedures Manual Update: Changes were proposed to remaining sections. Maria Magana moved to approve the changes as presented. Maria Yazzolino seconded, motion passed New Business: ● New discovery layer was added to the format of the on-line catalog. This represents a change that some will welcome while some may prefer to continue using the old format. Both will be available for the foreseeable future. ● Members of the City Council appear to be supportive of hiring a second Children’s Librarian. This needs to be approved by the entire body. Stay tuned and keep fingers crossed. ● The Bread Farm of Edison will begin to use the Library as a distribution point for day-old bread. This will be available to patrons at no cost.
