BURLINGTON OUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING March 5, 2024 6:05 pm In attendance: Cindy Lindt, Carol Doyle, Maria Magana, Sarah Ward Approval of minutes for Feb 6, regular meeting: Carol moved; Cindy seconded; motion passed Communications: • Sarah reported that an excellent job is being done by the Youth Services Librarians with programs including crafts, networking, special events, and other activities. The Teen Librarian has been working with volunteers from The Attic to assist in vocational services. Family Fun Nights have resumed and over 100 families participated in the February event. • A review of the 2023 budget is underway. The Supply Line and Travel line items are over budget but expenses were addressed by grants. Sarah will continue to monitor this and expects resolution. • The Skagit County contribution to the budget is currently estimated at $5K for this year but it is expected to be more. • Incident reports: Two patrons who have exhibited extremely destructive behavior in the past were trespassed for 1 year. Old Business/Monthly Tasks/Updates: • Approval of bills: Cindy moved; Maria seconded; motion passed • No issues regarding Weeds and Discards and Lost/Missing items New Business: • Spanish Outreach Work – Maria Funk, the Spanish Outreach Librarian and Indigent Defense Coordinator, has being doing an excellent job for the Library with her expansion of programs and activities and more planned. This has included a book club, crafts programs, and a Valentine’s display for the Hispanic community. Sarah explained that her two very distinct positions have been restructured into a better flow of work which has resulted in a better experience for the employee. • Mayoral Changes – With the resignation of City Mayor Steve Sexton, the Mayor Pro Temp took over a recent city council meeting to oversee the transition to a new mayor. Bill Aslett, the councilman from Ward 6, was approved as the new mayor opening the Ward 6 council position. Since the date of this trustee meeting, that position was filled by Jesus Perez-Linares. Next Trustees meeting date: April 9, 2024, 6pm. (moved one week due to BE School District spring break) Submitted by Maria Magana
