CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 5:15 PM Fire Station 42, 4321 NW Parker Street Ron Goodpaster Chairman Tanis Knight Commissioner Lynn Valenter Commissioner Alicia Ramsey Secretary / Chief Examiner I. CALL TO ORDER Staff: Captain Nelson Present: Tanis Knight, and Ron Goodpaster Excused: Lynn Valenter II. MINUTES TO BE APPROVED Commissioner Knight moved to approve the February minutes, Chairman Goodpaster seconded. III. MEETING ITEMS A. Police Department - Request to test using Public Safety Testing Captain Nelson informed the Commission that Camas Police is the only agency in Clark County that still conducts in-house hiring tests and the Department is no longer getting the number of candidates needed to fill positions. The main problem is recruiting, and Public Safety Testing does that. They would also conduct the written and physical test and the passing criteria would be the same as the standard we have. Nelson stated that at this point she is unsure if Public Safety Testing would be used for lateral candidates, as this would mean the lateral candidates also take a written and physical test. Commissioner Knight asked about the costs involved. Nelson responded that the Department would pay an annual fee of $1,600 and the candidates pay a minimum of $45 to take the tests, there are additional costs to send their results to more than one agency. Chairman Goodpaster clarified that the Department would only be using Public Safety Testing for the written and physical test for now and only for entry level hires. Nelson confirmed and stated that she may request permission in the future to use Public Safety Testing for lateral hires too. Chairman Goodpaster made a motion to approve the use of Public Safety Testing for police testing, Commissioner Knight seconded. From the test that was held in December, a job offer has been made to one candidate and another candidate is in the background stage currently. If the background is not passed, Nelson will likely be requesting permission from the Commission to hold a hiring test. Page 1 IV. ADJOURNMENT The meeting concluded at 5:30.
