WATER & SEWER COMMITTEE
AMUNDSON COMMUNITY CENTER

TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2026, 6:30 PM
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL: President Hollenbeck called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
Members Present – President Hollenbeck, Trustee Schulz, Steve Struss, and Mat Hughson.
Members Absent – None
Others – Mary Kay Rodriguez, Utility Superintendent Darnell, Clerk/Treasurer Wilson, Administrator Breunig
2. PROOF OF POSTING: Confirmed - upper and lower levels of the Amundson Center, Cambridge Post Office, Badger
Bank, Bank First, and the Village website.
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS – ACTION REQUIRED:
Motion made by Struss to amend agenda to move up item 7.A. involving Mary Kay Rrodriquez under Unfinished
Business. Second by Hughson. Motion carried on a voice vote.
A. Ms. Rodriguez came to discuss high costs on her November 2026 Water & Sewer bill. Following discussion
regarding the issue, Struss made a motion to grant Ms. Rodriguez a credit of $71.69. Second by Schulz. Motion
carried by voice vote.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Struss noted that Engineer Matt Castillo with MSA Professional Services had been
present at the November 18, 2025, meeting. No other corrections were noted. Struss made a motion to approve
the minutes for November 18, 2025, and December 10, 2025. Second by Hollenbeck. Motion carried on voice vote.
6. APPROVAL OF BILLS: Administrator Breunig reported that no action was required on the bills as the Village Board
approved them at their meeting on January 13. The total of the bills for the Water & Sewer Utility equaled $58,650.73
7. REPORTS: Blake Darnell delivered the Utility Superintendent’s report where he discussed the following items: utility
employees now have remote access to the SCADA system which allows for remote monitoring and control of system
pumps and other pieces of key equipment. The placement of siding on the Well Two building has been completed.
The generator project is proceeding and its funding requires that the work be substantially completed by May and
100% completed by July. Sewer system is seeing both high levels of BODs and high flows on occasion which will
require some work by the Utility to track down the source(s).
8. NEW BUSINESS – ACTION REQUIRED:
A. Committee members discussed a memo from MSA Professional Services regarding a proposed subdivision
where the developer desires to install grinder pumps for each home due to the much higher cost for a centralized
lift station which would not allow the subdivision to go forward. President Hollenbeck made a motion to direct
Village staff and engineer to continue working with the developer through the development process
incorporating the use of the E/One grinder pump system. Second by Struss. Motion carried by a vote of 3 – 1.
B. No action was taken to appoint a replacement for Ted Kumbier on the Water & Sewer Committee as
Administrator Breunig reported that the person of interest for the position had not yet responded.
9. QUESTIONS, STAFF REFERRALS, AND FUTURE AGENDA TOPICS:
A. Discussion and Possible action on a sewer lining project.
B. Discussion and Possible action regarding replacement of water meters.
C. Discussion and Possible action regarding the Water & Sewer Budget.
D. Update on the payment issues with PSN; the Village’s online payment provider.
10.ADJOURNMENT: Struss made a motion to adjourn. Second by Schulz. Motion carried by voice vote.
