City Council Convenes as Board of Equalization
The Canistota City Council convened as the Board of Equalization on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 6:00 PM in the
Canistota City Hall Community Room. City Council Members present, Jamie Miller, Jessica Kerher, Lori
Forsman, Donovan O’Donnell arrived at 6:05 PM. Absent: Mayor Justin Lee Engbarth. Others present,
Maintenance Supervisor Darin Nugteren, Maintenance Assistant, Brandon Dolejsi, Finance Officer, Kathy
Townsend and Kyle Sokulski with Snyder Associates.
Due to a death in the family, the school board representative was unable to attend the meeting.
Council President Kerher called the meeting to order at 6:04 PM and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The agenda was approved on a motion by J. Miller, seconded by Forsman, all voted yes, the motion carried.
The Canistota City Council convened as the Board of Equalization to consider written Objections to the Real
Property Assessments. No written objections were received. The Council reviewed the Assessment Roll and
found no errors or omissions. The canvas was approved on a motion by Forsman, second by Miller, all voted yes,
the motion carried.
No one was present for citizen concerns.
The Canistota City Council adjourned as the Board of Equalization at 6:10 PM on a motion by O’Donnell, second
by Miller, all voted yes, the motion carried.

City Council – Convenes for Special Meeting
The Canistota City Council met in Special Session, Monday, March 18, 2024 at 6:15 PM in the Community
Room of City Hall. City Council Members present: Jessica Kerher, Donovan O’Donnell, Jamie Miller and Lori
Forsman. Absent: Mayor Justin Lee Engbarth. Others present: Maintenance Supervisor, Darin Nugteren,
Maintenance Assistant Brandon Dolejsi, Finance Officer, Kathy Townsend and Kyle Sokulski, Snyder
Associates.
City Council President, Jessican Kerher called the meeting to order at 6:16 PM
The agenda was approved as presented on a motion by O’Donnell, second by Forsman, all voted yes, the
motion was approved.
Sokulski updated the Council with an April 1, 2024 date, weather permitting, for the work to begin in the Phase
3 project. An updated budget for the completion of Phase 3 was presented to the Council for their review.
There is an increase cost of $20,000.00. Sokulski presented a bid of $100,000.00 for sidewalk installation on
the east side of 7th Avenue, from Main St. to Ash. St, and along the north side of Pine from 7th Avenue to 5th
Avenue. This estimate allows the project to proceed without the need to rebid. The Transportation Alternative
Project Grant in the amount of $201,597.00 was discussed. There are several Federal guidelines which must be
considered and complied with when accepting this award. On a motion by Miller, second by Forsman, the City
of Canistota will proceed to install sidewalks in the Phase 3 project at a cost of $100,000.00, all voted yes, the
motion carried. Traffic congestion on 7th Avenue was discussed with ways to alleviate the issue, such as
installing speed bumps or restricting parking to just one side of the street. No action was taken.
The purchase of property for future City development was discussed and on a motion by O’Donnell, second by
Miller, an offer will be made with the City Attorney creating the purchase agreement, all voted yes, the motion
carried.
There were no citizen concerns.
There were no Council concerns.
Sokulski left the meeting at 7:59 PM
The meeting was adjourned at 7:59 PM on a motion by Miller, second by O’Donnell, all voted yes, the motion
carried.
The next regular meeting of the Canistota City Council will be Monday, April 1, 2024 at 6 PM in the
Community Room of City Hall. All are welcome.
