YEAGER Councilmember City of Cape May Environmental Commission Minutes October 22nd, 2024 ROLL CALL Kim Gronendahl Absent Michael Jones Present Barbara Meimbresse Present Sarah Stevenson Present Charlotte Todd Present Gretchen Whitman Present David Scheffler Present Justine Gaver-Margiel Absent Angela Judge Absent Chris Hajduk Absent Hope Gains Present Randell Nuschke Absent Councilmember Mike Yeager Present PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE MINUTES: The minutes from September 24th, 2024- Barbara Meimbresse made the motion, Hope Gaines seconded, all approved with no changes. OLD BUSINESS: Mike Jones-Planning Board nothing to report. Councilmember Mike Yeager- Sustainable NJ awarded The City of Cape May silver certification. David Scheffler- Spoke about the Dark Skies event on November 8th 2024 7-9PM at Cape May Convention Hall. Monarch Gretchen Whitman • Spoke about Nature Center Events. o Monarch Festival had an attendance of 1277 people. • Spoke about the importance of planting native in new construction areas. Hope Gains • Spoke about creating a flyer to remind the public and dark sky ordinances in affect in Cape May. Sarah offered to create this flyer. Charlotte Todd • Spoke about the success of having an Environmental Commission table at the Monarch Festival and how impressed she was with the attendance at the festival. • Spoke on how the Herald Newspaper wrote an article on the success of the Monarch Festival. OPEN TO PUBLIC • Courtnay LaCombe local water shed ambassador with AmeriCorps spoke on what her and AmeriCorps can offer as a resource to the Environmental Commission. DISCUSSION: Charlotte Todd- Environment briefings around Cape May and clean energy solutions. • Charlotte spoke about recycling clothing and the opportunities. ADUOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:56 a.m. Next meeting is Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, at 11 a.m. in Cape May City Hall auditorium.
