YEAGER Councilmember City of Cape May Environmental Commission Minutes August 27, 2024 ROLL CALL Hope Gains Present Kim Gronendahl Present Councilmember Mike Yeager Present Michael Jones Present Barbara Meimbresse Present Randell Nuschke Present Sarah Stevenson Present Charlotte Todd Present Gretchen Whitman Present David Scheffler Present Justine Gaver-Margiel Absent Angela Judge Absent Chris Hajduk Absent PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE MINUTES: The minutes from July 23rd , 2024- Gretchen Whitman made the motion, Sarah Stevenson seconded, all approved with minor changes. OLD BUSINESS: Mike Jones-Planning Board nothing to report Councilmember Mike Yeager-City Council proposals pertaining to our commission • City Council agreed to refer to Gretchen Whitman for planting and plant design decisions of Harbor View Park redesign, Gretchen accepted. Dune Day • Dune Day marketing was approved by Environmental Commission to distribute to the public. Dake Skies Event • Dark Skies marketing will begin, David will send information to Sarah to start on the ad. NEW BUSINESS • Publish articles on the benefits of planting native plants in local media outlets. OPEN TO PUBLIC DISCUSSION: Charlotte Todd- Environment briefings around Cape May and Clean energy solutions. • Charlotte spoke about the proposed flood plan in Cape May County by the NJ DEP. • Charlotte spoke about the importance of dunes and vegetation and how they provide a first line of defense on rising waters and storms. Gretchen Whitman • Spoke about the importance of diversity in choosing plants for planting in future Dune Day events. Monarch Festival • Scheduled date September 29th, 2024 at the Nature Center of Cape May. The Environmental Commission will attend and man an information table on upcoming events involving the commission. ADUOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:45 a.m. Next meeting is Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, at 11 a.m. in Cape May City Hall auditorium.
