Shade Tree Commission Meeting Minutes Tuesday, May 9, 2023 Chairman Schatz announced that in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act of 1975, adequate notice of this meeting has been provided. Pledge of Allegiance Roll Call: Jay Schatz Present George Ator Absent Barbara Preminger Present Robert Craft Present Carole Sick Present James Van Pelt Present George Werner Excused Carol York Present Shaine Meier – Council Representative Absent Guests: Glenn and Chris Hulse 1. A motion to approve the minutes of the April 11, 2023 meeting was made by Jim Van Pelt and seconded by Barbara Preminger. The motion was approved by all present with one abstentions. 2. A motion to approve the minutes of the April 18, 2023 meeting was made by Barbara Preminger and seconded by Carole Sick. The motion was approved by all present with two abstentions. 3. Glenn and Chris Hulse are the homeowners of 409 Jefferson Street. They requested the Commission reconsider the denial of their request to remove an evergreen tree in their back yard. The tree is close to the house and presents a treat to their foundation. Jay did not want to reverse the rejection without speaking to George W. 4. 20 Patterson Avenue: the Commission did not reverse the denied request to remove the two trees at this location. 5. 1161 Lafayette Street: consensus was the issues with the tree in question could be resolved by trimming the tree – the denied removal request was not reversed. 6. Jay thanked Bob for placing the ‘41 years’ sticker on the Tree City sign on Bank Street. 7. Jay recapped the Kiwanis park presentation from the April 18th meeting. 8. Nancy will distribute construction plans to all commissioners not just to the commissioner who is responsible to review the plan. 9. 1229 Vermont Avenue: Carol wanted guidance on the request to remove the street tree at this location. Jay recommended Carol have Ron Menear appraise the tree condition. 10. Shaine will schedule another meeting to continue discussing revisions to the Shade Tree Commission ordinance. A motion to adjourn was made by Carol and seconded by Barbara. All were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 2.38 PM. Submitted by Carol York
