Shade Tree Commission Meeting Minutes Tuesday, July 11, 2023 Chairman Schatz announced that in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act of 1975, adequate notice of this meeting has been provided. Pledge of Allegiance Roll Call: Jay Schatz Present George Ator Present Barbara Preminger Excused Robert Craft Present Carole Sick Present James Van Pelt Present George Werner Present Carol York Present Shaine Meier – Council Representative Absent 1. Item 7 in the June 13, 2023 meeting minutes was corrected to reflect Carole not Carol. A motion to approve the amended minutes of the June 13, 2023 meeting was made by George Werner and seconded by Carole Sick. The motion was approved by all present. 2. 1045 Washington Street: the Zoning Board approved plans for this property that involved removing trees. Approval was granted before the Shade Tree Commission could review the plans. Going forward, construction plans will be distributed to the Shade Tree Commission, and will allow the Commission the opportunity to review any tree removal plans for the property. 3. Shade Tree Ordinance: Shaine is expected to present changes to the ordinance at the August meeting. 4. 20 Patterson Avenue: home owner has not paid the $150.00 permit fee. Permit will not be issued until the fee is paid. 5. 1240 Ohio Avenue: Nancy will ask Ron Menear to check out this street tree and advise regarding the trimming or removal of the tree. 6. Madison Avenue: limbs from a cedar tree on the east side in the 200 block have broken off. Consensus is the tree was hit by a truck. Nancy asked Ron Menear to remove the downed limbs/branches. Public Works did not place the cones at the location. 7. Spilker Property: George W. asked other commissioners to look at the silver maple to the left of the driveway. Tree is not thriving. 8. Timing of Ron Menear completing tree requests: Jay mentioned that Nancy accumulates several requests before contacting Ron to perform the work. 9. Atlantic City Electric Sub-station: the new landscaping at this site is the responsibility of Atlantic City Electric, and the plantings are not doing well. The trees originally scheduled to be planted here were given to the City, and Matt Notch is taking care of them until they can be planted in the fall. It was cost prohibitive for the City to move and replant the Leland Cypress trees removed prior to the renovation of the sub-station. A motion to adjourn was made by George A. and seconded by Carole.
