SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CARTERVILLE CITY COUNCIL
The meeting was held in the Council Chambers with Mayor Bradley M. Robinson presiding. He
called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.

The Mayor declared a quorum present.
Others present were: Retia Watson, Secretary/Bookkeeper; Ralph Graul, Building and Codes;
Marvin Oetjen, Kamper Supply; Janice McConnaughy, Human Resources Specialist; James Lawson and
Family; and Ron Rains, Fire Chief.
The Mayor asked for comments from the audience with no response.
The Mayor asked Chief Ron Rains to address the Council regarding a new employee. Rains asked
the Council to confirm the appointment of James Lawson as a Firefighter /Paramedic.
Motion 1: Gooden moved and Gentry seconded to confirm the Mayor’s appointment of James R.
Lawson as Firefighter/Paramedic for the Carterville Fire Department. All present voted yea and the
Mayor declared the motion carried.
Michele Edwards, City Clerk, and Chief Ron Rains administered the Oath of Office to Mr. James R.
Lawson by asking him to read the Oath aloud. The audience applauded and Lawson and the Clerk signed
the oath (which will be framed and given to Mr. Lawson).
Police Chief Heather Reno asked that the Council approve the appointment of Blake Riley as an
Auxiliary Officer for the Carterville Police Department.

Motion 2: Gooden moved and Oetjen seconded to confirm the Mayor’s appointment of Blake Riley
as Auxiliary Police Officer as recommended by Chief Reno. A present voted yea and the Mayor declared
the motion carried.
The Mayor explained that the next thing on the agenda is the naming of the new roads at Plaza and
Commerce. Garry Wiggs met with the director of 9-1-1 to verify that the names picked are available and
there is a little discrepancy between the Committee and the 9-1-1 Office so the Mayor asked that this be
tabled for further discussion.
Motion 3: Oetjen moved and Gentry seconded to adjourn. All present voted yea and the Mayor
dismissed the meeting at 7:06 p.m.
