Member of the public Korby Smith was also present. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING It was motioned by Jan Meyer and seconded by Sarah Grider to approve the minutes of the April 15 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. Yes: 3 - Commissioner Grider, Chair Hiller, and Commissioner Meyer Not Present: 3 - Vice Chair Glotzbach, Commissioner Smith, and Commissioner Waggoner TMP 2020-337 Approval of the Minutes of April 15, 2020 FORMAL THANK YOU TO OUTGOING COMMISSIONERS Presented by Jeff Brauer, Director of Parks and Recreation Director of Parks and Recreation Jeff Brauer thanked the outgoing Commission members for their dedication. The Department depends on volunteers like Jan Meyer and Michael Waggoner to oversee our parks and recreation programs and services and to assess our financials and planning. Both have provided exceptional examples of ideal service through their demonstrated passion, reliability and integrity. Throughout their tenures, they have helped guide the Department through many successful accomplishments. PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT COMMENTS Staff provided Commission members the following updates: · The Castle Rock Mayor will be hosting a virtual public open house on Thursday, May 21 from 7-8 p.m. The Department will provide attendees a brief update. Meeting details are available at CRgov.com/events. · Last Tuesday, the Department received the update that licensed summer camps were approved by the Colorado Department of Human Services and Tri County Health to reopen. Camps will be hosted from the Miller Activity Complex with very strict requirements in place. · Staff are preparing to reopen the Recreation Center in June. Patrons will likely have to reserve workout timeslots in designated areas; cleaning will be performed by staff in between sessions. Little information is available as to when pools will be able to reopen. · Efforts are currently underway by Development Services to annex Gateway Mesa Open Space since the property was never fully incorporated into the Town of Castle Rock. · The Department has contracted two landscape architecture firms to begin designing several park improvement projects at Butterfield Park, Mitchell Gulch Park and Plum Creek area parks. Once parks are fully opened by the Governor, staff will initiate public process to garner feedback on the renovations. · Seven sculpture will be installed at various locations in June and July as part of Douglas County Art Encounters. This program ran through the county provides rotating sculptures to Castle Rock each year. · New Commission members will begin their terms in June after official Council appointment. We look forward to welcoming Korby Smith and Shawn L’Eserpance. · As part of the reaccreditation process, the Department has worked with the Town Managers office to complete an accessibility audit of facilities and programs. A transition plan will be completed throughout the summer that will establish a long-term plan to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. COMMISSION COMMENTS Inger Hiller asked whether or not the June meeting would be held virtually.
