Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes Thursday, May 11, 2023 4:00 PM Central Service Center 1400 Caprice Drive Castle Rock, CO 80109 This meeting is open to the public. All times indicated on the agenda are approximate. Three or more Councilmembers may also attend this meeting, during which the items listed herein will be discussed. CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL Commission Chair Jen Perry called the meeting to order at approximately 4:03 p.m. Staff Liaison Maia Yates was in attendance, as was member of the public Caryn Johnson. Present 6 - Vice Chair Stephanie Brueggemann, Commissioner Julisa Morris, Commissioner Samantha Wood, Chair Jen Perry, Commissioner Kenneth Greenberg, and Commissioner Katie Gasper AGENDA TOPICS PAC 2023-023 Approval of the Meeting Minutes Chair Jen Perry motioned to approve the minutes with the correction of chair and vice chair titles for respective members. Vice Chair Stephanie Brueggemann seconded the motion and the minutes were approved unanimously. "I move to approve the minutes with the correction of titles Chair and Vice Chair for respective commission members." Yes: 6 - Vice Chair Brueggemann, Commissioner Morris, Commissioner Wood, Chair Perry, Commissioner Greenberg, and Commissioner Gasper PAC 2023-024 Staff Updates Staff provided the following updates to Public Art Commission members: Tribal Jam The volunteer activity hosted at Metzler Ranch Community Park to touch up the skate park reliefs was extremely successful. Artist Rik Sargent offered to touch up additional portions of some of the colored reliefs free-of-charge, as well as submit a new proposal to entirely revamp the Tribal Jam sculptures. Staff hope to present Rik's proposal at a future meeting for the commission's consideration. Groovy Peace Sign The new sculpture Groovy Peace Sign will be installed at the skate park at Metzler Ranch Community Park on Tuesday, May 16 around 9 a.m. Members are invited to attend the installation if interested. Board and Commission Recruitment The panel interviewed ten candidates and made recommendations to be approved Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes May 11, 2023 by Town Council on Tuesday, May 16. Newly appointed or renewed members would begin terms in June. Chair Jen Perry would like to not only offer orientation meetings, but also suggested potentially hosting some type of team building activity early in the new term period. Samantha Wood offered to provide a tour of Castle Rock and artworks if the group could rent the Town's trolley. It was determined that this opportunity would be fun and members decided to discuss it further and confirm potential dates at their June 2023 meeting. Still Wild Dedication Event The dedication event for the sculpture Still Wild would be held Friday, May 12 at 5 p.m. Staff confirmed and reviewed logistics. PAC 2023-025 Public Art Plan Future Execution Members continued discussing the public art plan, including issuing a public survey to obtain feedback online, holding an open house at a future meeting and seeking Town Council approval. Members also reviewed a draft document outlining execution steps and dates. COMMISSION COMMENTS Members thanked Vice Chair Stephanie Brueggemann and Samantha Wood for their service on the Public Art Commission as it was their last meeting.
