CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order by Chair Jen Perry at 4:15 p.m. Staff Liaison Maia Yates was present. AGENDA TOPICS PAC 2023-042 Approval of the Minutes Dana Frazee motioned and Ken Greenberg seconded the approval of the minutes of the August 10, 2023 Public Art Commission meeting. “I move to approve the minutes of the August 10, 2023 Public Art Commission meeting.” Yes: 6 - Chair Perry, Commissioner Greenberg, Commissioner Morris, Commissioner Gasper, Commissioner Frazee, and Commissioner Klossner Not Present: 1 - Commissioner Daniels PAC 2023-043 Staff Updates Staff provided the following updates to Commission members: · The piano donation was received at Cantril School. Staff distributed a thank you card to gather signatures to send a thank you note to the donor. The donation was processed through by the Castle Rock Parks and Trails Foundation and a donor receipt letter was provided as well. · In August the Commission brainstormed location options for a painting series donated by artist Susan McAllister Greenberg; staff noted that they would look into the options and provide updates in the future. · Staff were still working to incorporate updates to the draft collection management Public Art Commission Meeting Minutes September 14, 2023 policy for the Town Attorney’s office to review. Once reviewed by Legal, the policy would be brought back for the commission’s approval later this year. · A few upcoming events were noted, including upcoming Councilmember open houses, the Tri Arts Project Fundraising Gala and an artist reception held by Mary Williams. PAC 2023-044 Artfest Recap Members of the Public Art Commission attended the 2023 Artfest event to engage on the public on their public art survey and plan, and hosted a card decorating station to promote the holiday card art contest. Members debriefed the event, generally noting that their attendance was successful, specifically highlighting having an engagement activity for the adults while kids participated in the craft. It was also suggested that the Commission could partner with the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative and Tri Arts Project to host a collective booth in 2024. PAC 2023-045 Holiday Card Artwork Contest Staff provided the update that several submissions had been received for the holiday card artwork contest, mostly from elementary school students. Members reviewed additional outreach opportunities to promote the contest through its close date on Oct. 8. Opportunities could include advertising the contest flyer through the school district’s online outreach program called Peachjar, sharing the flyer with personal networks at the library and through KidzArt and boosting social media outreach on Facebook and Instagram. PAC 2023-046 Public Art Plan Approval and Execution It was determined to extend the online questionnaire available to provide public feedback on the draft strategic plan through Sept. 30. Chair Jen Perry asked if the social media posts could be boosted with public art budget, and staff noted that they would ask the Communications Division to inquire. In the interim, staff would work on drafting the memo and presentation items for a future Council agenda item to approve and formally adopt the plan. COMMISSION COMMENTS None.
