The Commission had no reservations and was excited to continue working with Ms. Peterson in 2018. City Clerk Smith explained that because the current contract with Ms. Peterson ended on December 31, 2017, a new scope of services would have to be approved by City Council in order for Ms. Peterson to continue work with the Commission in 2018. She noted that the Commission should establish the reasons why they believed they needed a consultant. The Commissioners stated that that they were volunteers and that the City did not have a full time staff member for the art program. They agreed that they are not experts in the Cherry Hills Village Art Commission December 4, 2017 -1- field and that Ms. Peterson had the time, education, contacts and professionalism that would elevate the program. They added that artists received constant inquiries and a professional like Ms. Peterson was much more likely to receive an answer. They indicated that having Ms. Kendall communicate with the artists gave the Commission more credibility and would help the Commission to establish a positive reputation in the art world. They noted that Ms. Peterson could likely get secure future art loans at a better price than they could, and that the Commission could learn from Ms. Peterson. They indicated that they would not need Ms. Peterson full time, but that she would be essential for certain aspects of their program. Commissioner Doug Smooke joined by phone at 9:04 a.m. The Commission reviewed a new scope of work for 2018. They discussed the proposed budget for 2018 and suggested that not more than $5,500 be spent on Ms. Peterson’s work.
