Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission Meeting Minutes October 21, 2021 This meeting of the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission was held on October 21st at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Administrative Office. Chair Wigginton called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. ANNOUNCEMENTS The following announcements were made:  The meeting is being recorded.  Meeting information for this commission, along with provisions for public access, is posted on the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission web page.  Essential business of the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission is being conducted during this meeting. Members Present: Michele Catalano, Nathan Croslin, Efrem Graham, Amy Massey, Kim Painter, Tom Retnauer (Vice-Chair), Lauren Seward, Lisa Wigginton (Chair) Members Absent: Jon Berry, Daniel Booth, Stacey Mansfield, Adrianna Rivera, Mark Warack. Staff Present: Mike Barber and Joe Ruthenberg ROLL CALL Joe Ruthenberg called the roll. Attendance reflected a quorum with 8 voting members present, 5 voting members absent. MINUTES: Approval of Meeting Minutes: Chair Wigginton asked if there were any corrections to the August meeting minutes as presented. There were no corrections and the minutes are approved. REPORTS: a. Committee Reports:  Fundraising/ Budget/Long Term Events – Chesapeake Arts Weekend currently has 83 artists signed up for next year’s event.   Grants – No updates  Arts Alive – Arts Alive will be excluded from the agenda going forward.  Public Art/ Individual Artists – o 9/11 Extended Public Art Committee – No updates. o Public Art – The Public Art Committee will be meeting shortly to finish up crafting the bylaws and finalizing its focus going forward. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:  None NEW BUSINESS:  There was a motion by Commissioner Wigginton to amend The Governor’s School for the Arts grant proposal from the original project of "Valse Fantasie" to Nilaja Sun’s No Child. It was seconded by Commissioner Retnauer and passed unanimously. . CITY BUSINESS:  The flag pole and flag have been installed at Chesapeake City Park near the Chesapeake 9/11 Memorial, temporary lighting is being used until the permanent lighting can installed. Additional landscaping is also planned for the site in the near future.  Courtyard Square Park located in the courtyard behind the City Hall building is being renamed the Judge Eileen Olds Courtyard Park, there are also plans to install a town clock at the park as well.  55 & Better Art Expo will be taking place at The Portlock at South Norfolk and at the Rokeby Center from November 1- 13. In addition there will also be a meet the artist reception on November 7, from 1-4 p.m. at the Portlock building. It is free and open to the public.  The Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution are interested in installing a statue at Battlefield Park in honor of the Nansemond Tribe. The groups maybe soliciting help from the Fine Arts Commission in the next few months to help guide the project.
