Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission Meeting Minutes November 20, 2021 This meeting of the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission was held on November 21st at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Administrative Office. Chair Wigginton called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. ANNOUNCEMENTS The following announcements were made:  The meeting is being recorded.  Meeting information for this commission, along with provisions for public access, is posted on the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission web page.  Essential business of the Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission is being conducted during this meeting. Members Present: Jon Berry, Michele Catalano, Nathan Croslin, Efrem Graham, Kim Painter, Tom Retnauer (Vice-Chair), Adrianna Rivera, Lauren Seward, Lisa Wigginton (Chair) Members Absent: Daniel Booth, Stacey Mansfield, Amy Massey, Mark Warack. Staff Present: Mike Barber and Joe Ruthenberg ROLL CALL Joe Ruthenberg called the roll. Attendance reflected a quorum with 8 voting members present, 5 voting members absent. MINUTES: Approval of Meeting Minutes: Chair Wigginton asked if there were any corrections to the October meeting minutes as presented. There were no corrections and the minutes are approved. REPORTS: a. Committee Reports:  Fundraising/ Budget/Long Term Events – Chesapeake Arts Weekend currently has 89 artists signed up for next year’s event, there is another email blast being sent out in December, regular registration ends on December 31st. The event is always still looking for additional corporate sponsors, information on sponsorship can be found on https://chesarts.com.   Grants – Grant applications are due by January 13 for next year’s funding.  Public Art/ Individual Artists – o 9/11 Extended Public Art Committee – The committee is in the process of disbanding, but will still assist in planning the 9/11 ceremony. o Public Art – The Public Art Committee will be meeting in January to finish up crafting the bylaws and finalizing its focus going forward. Commissioner Catalano will be replacing Commissioner Rivera on the committee. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:  None NEW BUSINESS:  Patrick J. O’Brien Institutional Relations Manager from the Virginia Symphony Orchestra reviewed upcoming programs and initiatives in Chesapeake for the Commission, including the Holiday Brass performance, ribbon cutting at the new ForKids building and their virtual school program.  There was a motion by Commissioner Croslin to cancel the December meeting in lieu of the commissioners attending the Holiday Brass Concert at the Chesapeake Conference Center on December 16th at 7 p.m., it was seconded by Commissioner Rivera and passed unanimously. . CITY BUSINESS:  Holiday Brass Concert at the Chesapeake Convention Center on December 16, at 7 p.m.  Deck the Halls will be taking place every night at the City Hall grounds starting Thanksgiving Day through January 2nd, Fa La La Land, which will include carolers, face painting baby goats, a live snow globe and more will be taking place on December 11th and 18th 6p.m. to 9 p.m.  Chesapeake Rotary Christmas Parade on December 4th  The Battle of Great Bridge reenactment will be taking place on December 4th 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday December 5th at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be on Thursday January 20, at 6:30 pm at the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Administrative Office, 1224 Progressive Dr. Minutes submitted by Joe Ruthenberg 2
