CHICOPEE CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE ACCEPTED MEMBERS Fred Krampits Jean Croteau, Jr. Gerry Roy Dino Brunetti Frank Laflamme MINUTES November 1, 2012 The following are the minutes of a public hearing held Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 7:30 PM at City Hall, Council Chambers, 4th floor, City Hall Annex. Members Present Krampits, Croteau, Roy, Brunetti, Laflamme Also Present Councilor Tillotson, Steve Frederick (City Engineer), Daniel Garvey (Associate City Solicitor), Councilor Zygarowski, Councilor Tillotson, Councilor Vieau, Thomas Charette (Acting Chief of Police) The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM. ITEM #1 Review of crosswalks in the area of 498-502 Britton Street. Councilor Roy stated that this started as a parking issue. We have a multitude of crosswalks all over Britton Street and they’re not handicap accessible. That’s why I think this was sent to Public Works to get some of the less safe crosswalks eliminated. Councilor Tillotson stated the whole area needs to be reviewed and studied and then we need to make ordinances that will make sense in my opinion to solve the problems that exist there. Steve Fredericks submitted a plan for sidewalks. After reviewing he stated that I think what you have in front of you is a good compromise and a good working solution to having a safe crossing in locations that can be useful to the public. Acting Chief of Police Charette stated the road was reconstructed two years ago and now we are going to have to spend money to do curb cuts. Councilor Krampits asked are there existing ordinances for crosswalks or do they have to be deleted and new ones added. Councilor Tillotson answered the only ordinance we need is if they’re going to change the parking arraignment there. Accept and approve plan submitted by Engineering. Committee vote 5-0 ITEM #2 Minutes – July 3, 2012. Motion made to accept. Motion passed. 1 Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM. 2
