TREE COMMISSION MINUTES 4-11-2024 Circleville Tree Commission convened a meeting on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in Council Chambers, 127 South Court St, at 6:00 pm. Roll call. Present VC Chair: Beth Kowalski; Alan Gribler, Lori Prichard (6:20 p.m.), and Sheri Theis, Council Liaison. Clerk Linda Chancey. Absent: Roman Cline, Lisa Wiseman, Mark Fouch, Laura Schweitzer. Guests present – Doug Baker and Paul Hang. VC Kowski opened the meeting with roll call. Per VC Kowalski there is no quorum of members present to approve March 14, 2024, minutes. Discussion items. Address any items outstanding from the March meeting. a. Spring planting date -April 26th (Arbor Day) b. Ted Lewis Park - FFA students will help plant trees. Mayor Blanton will prepare a proclamation for the day. North Court St. Cemetery tree planting, 4 or 5 trees needed. c. Budget: The Tree Commission budget is $10k. The discussion was to plant two hundred trees this fall and where to plant the trees. d. April 20th at 9:00 p.m. meet at MVHC Park Pavilion to stake trees with location markers. e. Hang - purchased twenty evergreen trees coming in under budget. Indigenous Trees - $4k plant for local area, need inventory for trees, too. f. Order trees from Rhoades Farm Market (30 trees) g. Need supplies purchased for tree planting six shovels, three garden rakes. h. Gator Bags -need to bag trees when planted and trees planted last year, too. Maybe order more. B. Kowalski will purchase. i. Main Street Order – Council project: Gribler is going to help City order trees for downtown. ➢ TABLED -Work with the City to purchase & install trees that meet the Urban and Community Forestry-Grant. Urban and Community Forestry-Grant. Continue with paperwork with specifications and submit. Jim Stanley is collaborating with us on this. Tree City application status o The award ceremony is in Worthington OH., May 9th at 9:45 a.m., the cost is $45.00 a person. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony. The Tree Commission will pick up the cost to attend the ceremony. MOTION: L. Pritchard motioned to approve the cost of attending the Tree City Ceremony. Kowalski seconded. Needs to be approved at next month’s meeting. Please email if you want to go. o Purchase a Tree City sign for City, need size, style, and colors. Location Discussion - North Court St., South Court St. East Rt 22 Lancaster Pike or Rt 188 by the MVHC City Park. Ask the Service Director for recommendations, too. Other Business a. Kowalski stated, between North Pickaway St. and Montclair Ave. is a dead tree that is leaning and needs to be removed. Gribler acknowledged; it needs to be removed. b. Theis showed different styles of wearable clothing to purchase for the Tree Commission. c. Gribler asked about tree orders for the City, Theis recommended to be in contact with the Service Director. The Next Tree Commission meeting is Thursday, May 9th at 6:00 p.m. Gribler motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:03 p.m., seconded by Pritchard. Motion carried.
