AGENDA REPORT TO: Mayor Pat Humphrey & Clare City Commissioners FROM: Diane Lyon, City Clerk DATE: July 28, 2022 RE: *Professional & Education Training Opportunities For the Agenda of August 1, 2022. *Note: This is a Consent Agenda item and is considered as routine by the City Commission. As such, this matter shall be automatically enacted by one motion with all other Consent Agenda items unless a Commissioner or citizen requests this item be individually discussed, in which event it shall be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered and acted upon in its designated sequence on the approved Clare City Commission agenda of August 1, 2022. Commissioners are encouraged to attend educational and training events. Please submit the attached Professional Development Training Request to the City Clerk if you are interested in attending any educational or training event(s). 1. Michigan Municipal League Upcoming Events. The MML also provides many opportunities for training and professional development to include a vast selection of webinars available for viewing. The current offerings are attached for review & consideration. MML’s Fall Convention will take place October 19-21, 2022. Mayor Humphrey and Commissioner Jenkins have signed up to attend this event. 2. American Planning Association-Michigan Chapter. The Michigan APA likewise offers training sessions and onsite workshops for city officials. If you are interested in having the City host an onsite workshop, please contact the City Clerk. The most current opportunities for professional development are attached for your consideration. 3. Meet the Candidate Legislative Breakfast. A Candidate Legislative Breakfast Meet & Greet will be held August 15, 2022, at The Venue in Clare, from 8-9:30am. Attachments: as outlined above. Time begins upon having fire department/public safety department membership combined with first firefighter certification. (Pre-service and cadet/explorer time are not counted toward this time.) o Must provide a copy of first firefighter certificate to participate.  Completion of all three of the following: o Fire Officer I (E01A, E01B, E01C, E01Y, E01R, E01V, O21A, O61A) o Fire Officer II (E02A, E02B, E02C, E02Y, E02R, E02V, O21A, O62A) o Fire Officer III (E03A, E03R, E03V, O31A, O63A) Note: Company Officer I & II Series certification will meet the requirement for Fire Officer I & II. The individual must provide a copy of their certificate for each officer requirement.  Certified as a Fire Instructor I (O54A or O54B): Note: The individual must provide a copy of their certificate.  Held/hold the rank of Sergeant or higher in the fire service: Note: Individual will provide a current department roster showing the rank or a letter from their fire chief or public safety director attesting to the rank achievement. Seating is limited. Send required documents (PDF format only) in an email to LARA-FireOfficer1@michigan.gov attesting that you meet the above minimum qualifications, along with a short cover letter for consideration to attend this train-the-trainer. Missing documentation or sending an email to any other BFS email account will disqualify your participation in the train-the-trainer on Monday, August 22, 2022. All documents and the cover letter must be received by Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 5pm. Individuals will be notified of acceptance status on August 12, 2022. A link for the Zoom meeting that provides the course information will be sent to accepted individuals a week before the train-the-trainer. Each student will be responsible for obtaining a Jones and Bartlett Chief Officer Principles and Practice Third Edition textbook prior to August 22, 2022.
