ADJOURNMENT PARKS + RECREATION COMMITTEE JANUARY 13, 2020 AT 3:00PM CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM, 4​TH​ FLOOR MEETING MINUTES I. PUBLIC COMMENTS None II. CALL TO ORDER The meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by Chairperson Guzman at 3:00 p.m. on January 13, 2020, in the City Hall Conference Room. III. ANNOUNCE MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE ​(Verify Quorum) Councilperson Valerie Guzman, Chair Councilperson Richard Garrett Councilperson Travis Holleman Councilperson Vondell Richmond Councilperson Stacey Streetman IV. ADOPTION OF MEETING MINUTES ● December 9, 2019 Councilperson Streetman made a motion to adopt the minutes as presented. Councilperson Holleman seconded the motion. A voice vote was taken and the motion to adopt the minutes passed without objection. V. COUNCIL ACTION None VI. NEW BUSINESS ● Discussion: All-Inclusive Playground Charrette, January 16 & 17 ​(Jennifer Letourneau) Jennifer Letourneau shared with the Committee that a workshopping session will be held at Freedom Point on January 16 & 17 and will be led by Landscape Parks + Recreation Committee Minutes Page | 2 January 14, 2020 Structures. The public is invited to attend and voice their thoughts on what they would like to see in an all-inclusive playground at the Exit 8 Complex. VII. OLD BUSINESS ● Discussion: Potential Recreation Center Sites ​(Jennifer Letourneau) Jennifer Letourneau presented three potential recreation center sites to the Committee all of which are located in Ward 12. The attributes and site criteria met for each location were discussed. Councilperson Garrett suggested that the next step should be to reach out to the owners to determine the availability of each property. Councilperson Streetman stated that having a recreation center in this ward would greatly benefit the children in the area. Councilperson Garrett voiced his concerns with the accessibility of these potential sites. He believes there would be more usage in a different location. Councilperson Garrett arrived at 3:06 PM. VIII. DEPARTMENT REPORTS ● Meet New Staff Members ​(Jennifer Letourneau) Michelle Austin introduced Ryan Sample to the Committee. He is the new Marketing Coordinator for the Department and has joined us from Ebonite in Hopkinsville, KY. Dan Carpenter also introduced Maggie Houts. She is the new Event Planning Specialist and has joined us from TN Valley Brewing Co. Jennifer Letourneau reported that both a new Recreation Programmer and Athletic Coordinator will be starting soon. ● Human Resources Report ​(Jennifer Letourneau) Jennifer Letourneau updated the Committee on the open position of Maintenance Specialist left vacant due to the recent promotion of the Maintenance Manager. The department will start looking for lifeguards and other summer seasonal positions soon. Parks + Recreation Committee Minutes Page | 3 January 14, 2020 ● Councilperson Richmond recently had an opportunity to meet with the Mayor’s Youth Council. He commended the Department for its work with the group. IX. ADJOURNMENT Councilperson Streetman made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Councilperson Garrett seconded the motion. A voice vote was taken. The motion to adjourn the meeting at 3:24 p.m. passed without objection.
