ADJOURNMENT  PARKS + RECREATION COMMITTEE JUNE 14, 2021 AT 3:00PM CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM, 4TH FLOOR MEETING MINUTES I. PUBLIC COMMENTS None II. CALL TO ORDER The meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by Chairperson Richmond at 3:00 p.m. on June 14, 2021. III. ANNOUNCE MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE Councilperson Vondell Richmond Councilperson Ashlee Evans Councilperson Karen Reynolds Mayor Pitts was also in attendance. Councilpersons Garrett and Little were absent. IV. ADOPTION OF MEETING MINUTES ● May 10, 2021 Councilperson Reynolds made a motion to adopt the minutes as presented. Councilperson Evans seconded the motion. The motion to adopt the minutes passed without objection. V. COUNCIL ACTION None VI. NEW BUSINESS ● Madison/Tanglewood Property Councilperson Reynolds stated that in the last Council session the possibility of a bike path on Crossland Avenue was discussed. Councilperson Reynolds informed the Committee that the Mobley property located off of Tanglewood Drive Parks + Recreation Committee Minutes Page | 2 June 17, 2021 could be purchased to allow access to the City’s property in the same area. A map of the area was presented and different options were discussed. VII. OLD BUSINESS ● Needmore/Hazelwood Property Councilperson Reynolds reached out to the school system regarding the Needmore/Hazelwood property as it is close to Pisgah Elementary. Councilperson Reynolds believes someone should purchase the property in case the school needs to expand in the future, until then it could be a green space or practice fields. Mayor Pitts stated that he would reach out to the interim Director of Schools. Mayor Pitts informed the Committee that a survey for the second 10 acres has been ordered and the appraisal will be done immediately following. ● Heritage Soccer Field Update Michelle Austin shared drone images of Heritage Park from the past month detailing the progression of the soccer fields. Michelle Austin stated that renovations have started and include fraze mowing, linear aeration, decompaction, fertilizer application, and sod installation. She estimates the fields will be game ready by August 1st. Michelle Austin also noted that the new Crew Chief is a self proclaimed “turf nerd” with a degree in Outdoor Sports Recreation & Management and over ten years of turf maintenance experience. VIII. DEPARTMENT REPORTS ● Human Resources Report Jennifer Letourneau listed the open part-time positions currently available within the Department including Lifeguards, Cashiers, Maintenance Workers, Golf Groundskeeper, Pro Shop Clerks, Facility Managers, and Gym Assistants. She informed the Committee that interviews for the Event Planning Specialist position will start next week and interviews for the Athletic Coordinator position will start the following week. Jennifer Letourneau also stated that our Marketing Specialist has accepted another position and that job will be open soon as well. Parks + Recreation Committee Minutes Page | 3 June 17, 2021 IX. ADJOURNMENT Councilperson Reynolds made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Councilperson Evans seconded the motion. The motion to adjourn the meeting at 3:37 p.m. passed without objection.
