Tree Board Minutes
February 12th, 2020 at 4 pm
Attendance: Wes Powell, Joey Redman, Brian Beuscher, Dottie Mann, Brian
Beuscher, Ron Erb, Claudia Erb and Kathrine Killebrew
1. Wes asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the January meeting.
Brian made the motion, Ron seconded and the board passed the minutes as
written.
2. Kathrine updated the board on the 25 TAEP Grant trees. They will be
planted at Billy Dunlop Park by a group of ROTC volunteers. The trees will
serve as a riparian buffer along the river.
3. Kathrine also gave an update on the storm clean-up efforts. Crews are
currently working on the Blueway now and will move on to Billy Dunlop and
Ft. Defiance when finished. The clean-up at Trice Landing is being put out
for bid. Bids should be back sometime in March.
4. She has also submitted the Growth Award application with The Arbor Day
Foundation and we should hear back soon. She anticipates us getting this
again this year.
5. Kathrine has completed her dossier for 2019 and will have it for the board
to review next month. She has also resigned from the Board of the
Tennessee Urban Forestry Council due to time constraints.
6. Eddie reported that the Christmas Tree Chipping service was a success. His
crew chipped 39 yds of material and kept trees from being dumped in our
parks and throughout the city.
7. TN Arbor Day is March 6. WE will be giving away trees at Trahern Mansion
from 9-2 this day. Kathrine, Wes, Ron and maybe Dottie have volunteered
to help.
8. The City Arbor Day celebration will be at Hazelwood Elementary on April 3
at 10 am. Wes will make an itinerary to send out.
9. Michelle Austin, Kathrine’s boss suggested that the Citizen Forester
Program be pushed to the fall. At that time there is more availability with
city facilities to host the class and fewer other activities going on. The
board agreed that this was a good idea. Wes asked Dottie to reach out to
Copies in a Flash to get prices on printing the booklets for attendees and
teachers. We are looking for a minimum of 10 registrants and a maximum
of 20 for this to be successful. Weekly topics will be: 1. Tree Biology and
Anatomy. 2. Tree ID and Pruning. 3. Tree soils and selection. 4. Tree
Fertilization and Propagation. 5. Tree Planting and After Care. 6. Tree
Disease and Hazards.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned.

Tree Board Minutes
January 8th, 2020 at 4 pm
Attendance: Wes Powell, Joey Redman, Brian Beuscher, Dottie Mann and
Alexandra Wills
1. Brian began by giving an update of Tracey Jackson. With continuing health
concerns, Tracey has agreed to step down as a voting board member and
attend whatever meetings he can as a concerned citizen/consultant. His
Knowledge of the Tree Board’s past is still invaluable to the current board.
Wes asked the Board to reach out to anyone that they think would be a
good addition to the board.
2. Dottie brought in an example of the Clarksville Country Club Logo to use as
a reference for our logo. Wes asked the other board member to email their
suggestions.
3. Wes gave Kathrine’s report in her absence. He reported that the Christmas
tree chipping service had been advertised through Parks and Rec PR, radio
and social media. Also the lights on the Franklin St trees will be removed
this week. There are still many parks with damage from the storm this past
Fall. Trice Landing is the worst and will have to go out for bid to be cleaned
up. Kathrine will be attending a Landscape Management Short Course this
month for ISA continuing education points. She is also working on her
yearly Forestry Dossier and should have it for the Board in February.
4. The Board suggested using local Churches, Community Centers or the
Public Library for Citizen Forester Classes. Classes will be once per week for
6 weeks. We need to find out if there is a charge to reserve the rooms.
5. Brian reported for Eddie that CDE plans to do another bill stuffer in April for
right tree right place.
