MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE, BY LAW, ALLOWED TO ATTEND MEETINGS OF THE TREE BOARD, BUT ARE STRONGLY DISCOURAGED TO DO SO AT THIS TIME. 2:30: Call to order—Wes Powell Motion:​ “​In order to comply with the technical aspects of the Governor’s Executive Order regarding holding open meetings in a forum other than in the open and in public, the Clarksville Tree Board determines that meeting electronically is necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens due to the COVID-19 outbreak.” Adoption of minutes from previous meeting. Continuing business: 1. City Forester Update – Kathrine Old business: 1. City Arbor Day Celebration/Arboretum grand opening 2. Citizen Forester Program 3. Tree Board Logo 4. Potential change of date for October meeting Public Comments: Next meeting: ​ 10, November 2020​ at ​2:30 pm- Zoom meeting c. 3:30: Adjourn  Tree Board Minutes September 9th 2020 @ 2:30 pm Zoom Meeting Attendance: Wes Powell, Dottie Mann, Ron Erb, Alexandra Wills, Joey Redman, Brian Beuscher and Kathrine Killebrew 1. Wes made the motion to hold this month’s meeting virtually. Ron seconded and the motion passed 2. Ron made a motion to approve the minutes from July. Dottie seconded and the motion passed. 3. City Forester update. Kathrine has ordered 1100 tree seedlings to hand out in the spring. Delivery is set for January, which is a month earlier than previous years. This will eliminate the worry of trees being delivered on time for Arbor Day in early March. 100 each of Shortleaf pine, Virginia pine, Baldcypress, Flowering Dogwood, Silky Dogwood, Elderberry, Bur oak, Northern Red Oak, Overcup Oak, Water Oak, and Redbud were ordered 4. The city has received the TAEP grant for the Trice Landing riparian buffer. The buffer will be 40’ deep and 100’ in lengh. Installation is set to begin in early November. 5. The city forestry department is still short on help. Kathrine has decided to try an internship for local students to help. The invitation has been sent to APSU Biology, Agriculture and Geology departments. Pay will be $10.50/hr and individuals could work up to 40 hrs/wk. 6. Kathrine also shared the accomplishments of the city’s forestry department for 2020. 290 Work Orders, 258 trees planted, 112 trees removed, 32 hazard trees removed, 42 private trees assessed, 52 right of way trees assessed, 2310 trees distributed. 7. Citizen Forester program. The board took the opportunity to review the online course offered by Southern Regional Extension Forestry. Wes made a motion to use this platform for our Citizen forester certification. Dottie seconded and the motion passed. 8. The board discussed the desired/undesired tree list for the city. It was decided that Ash, Norway Spruce, Sasafrass, be removed from the desired tree list and pear, hackberry be added to the undesirable list. Also, Japanese Maple and Crape Myrtle are to be added to the desired list. Any tree that is considered invasive should be noted. 9. New Board member nominations. Dottie recommended Ameila Allen Hartz and Joey recommended Becky Redman. Wes will send both nominees an email and invite them to our next meeting to introduce themselves and tell the board reasons why they would like to be a member. 10. Wes mentioned that he will be out of town during the week of our next meeting. The board decided to schedule the meeting one week earlier on October 7 at 2:30.
