Reminder for new members to get ID’s for the Tree Board in HR (2nd floor) of city Hall Public Comments: Next meeting: 12, January 2022 at 4:00 p.m. 4th Floor Conference Room, City Hall c. 5:00: Adjourn Christmas Tree Chipping Area  Forestry Division Accomplishments & Activities for 2021 Middle TN Short Course Conference Clarksville City Forester attended to add to continuing education on January 12th & 13th. These class sessions are taught each year by University of TN Extension and ISA Arborist certification points are acquired while learning new and improved techniques and procedures for caring for trees. A Speaking engagement was also given by the Forester on “Tree Risk Assessment: Is It Cultural or is it Herbicide Damage” Arbor Day Seedling Giveaway There were 1200 seedlings distributed to the citizens of Montgomery County/Clarksville at Smith Trahern Mansion March 5th..There were volunteers that helped to distribute from the Tree Board and also UT Extension Master Gardeners. Due to COVID restrictions it was done as a drive in/drive out event. Tennessee Tree Day Distribution Pickup Location This annual event was held to help raise canopy awareness across the state of Tennessee by the Tennessee Environmental Council. Forestry helped to distribute 1033 seedlings at Edith Pettus Park to our local area to add to our own canopy rates March 19th and 20th..There were volunteers from the Master Gardeners with UT Extension that helped along with local Tree Board members. Tennessee Tree Day Distribution Hub for Tree Sponsors (TEC) Tree distribution hub for TN Tree Day Sponsors March 15th - 18th Helped to distribute 2,225 tree seedlings Plant a Tree for Tennessee Pickup Location In partnership with Green Interchange and TN Environmental Council. Forestry helped to distribute 452 seedlings on April 24th to local patrons. This also added to our existing canopy rates for Cville. These seedlings were handed out at Pettus Park in conjunction with the Tree Board. Plant a Bigger Tree for Tennessee Distribution In partnership with Green Interchange Forestry and Tree board helped to distribute 29 larger #5 trees to local patrons adding to our existing canopy November 13th. Downtown Market Pollinator Day A downtown market was attended by City Forestry and the Tree Board on Pollinator Day at the Downtown Market 26th June to encourage citizens to plant specific trees for pollinators. Clarksville Montgomery County Bee Association Presentation An educational morning for the local bee association monthly meeting included a presentation on “Trees for Honeybees' ' was given at the local Dotsonville Community Center May 1st. There were 26 beekeepers present. Arbor Day Celebration & Veterans Day Celebrated Veterans day, Arbor Day& First Responder day November 12th at Station 10. The 10 Oak trees were donated by the Green Interchange and were planted in remembrance of those who have served our country and public services roughly 55 Veterans and First Responders showed up to help plant these trees. TAEP Grant Riparian BufferTrice Landing Park Twenty-six (26)Trees were planted along with a 100 smaller tree seedlings to help prevent the further erosion of the river bank. This will help in establishing a “No Mow Zone “buffer and will restore a natural habitat vital to reducing existing bank erosion.There were 8 volunteers that were from Austin Peay that teamed up with P&R staff to help plant the trees. Plant the Campus Red Forestry helped assist Austin Peay with leading student groups to help plant flowers throughout campus on April 22nd. This team event started due to the 1999 Tornado that decimated Clarksville's green infrastructure and has been a long standing tradition to this day. New Arboretum Tree Tags The Tree Board purchased tree identification tags to increase our diversity and continual expansion of our certified Arboretum in Liberty Park. These tags replaced the older tags and are maintained by City Forestry and the Tree Board on the Plants Map website. (https://www.plantsmap.com/organizations/city-of-clarksville-arboretum) Master Gardener Class A continuing education class was taught to 30 Master Gardener interns in achieving their certification in conjunction with UT Extension on “Woody Landscape Plants” This includes Basic tree pruning techniques, care and maintenance. September 28th Award for Best Land use. Montgomery County Green Certification Program awarded Parks & Recreation City Forestry an award for Outstanding Efforts in Land Use Award for a native tree buffer to prevent erosion and reduce stormwater mitigation at Trice Landing Park. This was achieved utilizing our annual TAEP grant to purchase 26 large 2 caliper trees and 100 tree seedlings and created a NO MOW zone for 40 feet by the riverfront. (Award is in City Forestry office) Austin Peay’s Community Sustainability Forum Forestry led a discussion on different types of native Tree Care for the forum. October 9th Memorial Trees There were 4 Memorial trees planted and added to the Arboretum at Liberty Park near the exercise equipment for Juanita Luther, Shane Lee Booth, Zanola Sampson, John Douglas Powell. Christmas Tree Recycling by Tree Board This year CDE and City Forestry will be chipping discarded Christmas Trees for the city through the Tree Board December 26th - January 9th. Citizens of Clarksville will be asked to place their discarded live trees in the designated taped off area at Heritage park soccer parking area to be chipped. Tree City USA Certification and Growth Award Currently Clarksville is in its 33nd year for Tree City USA recertification. The Growth Award is in its 16th year. The 34th Tree City USA recertification has been applied for and awaiting the Mayors Signature. The Growth Award has been applied for in its 17th year and is awaiting approval from the State. Adopt A Plots Coordinated contracts and maintained beautification for 31 plots for businesses and patrons throughout the city.
