MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY OF CLEVELAND HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 2017 AT 5:20 PM CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL BUILDING, 190 CHURCH STREET NE The regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was called to order by Maryl Elliott, Board Chairwoman, at 5:20 pm. Membership present included Sarah Coleman, Randy Wood, Joan Benjamin, Maryl Elliott, Rufus Triplett, Phyllis Callaway, and Jane Easterly. Staff present included Bryan Turner, Building Official; Joe Fivas, City Manager; and Peggy Hathcock, Building Division Technician. Others present in the audience included 2 representatives of the Simpkins Group. The Minutes from the regular session that was held on March 28, 2017, were presented. Rufus Triplett made a motion that the minutes be accepted as written. Joan Benjamin seconded the motion, and it passed with a unanimous vote. There were no Public Hearings presented. There was not any Old Business to discuss. The Simpkins Group requested a Certificate of Appropriateness for work at 565 17th Street NW, (Tax Map 49E Group V Parcel 004.00). This property is zoned R1HP. The owner of this property would like to add a storage building to the back corner of the property. Rufus Triplett made a motion that a Certificate of Appropriateness be issued for the storage building if the building has a traditional pitched roof line that has asphalt shingles. Randy Wood seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The Board expressed concern regarding the construction tape that had been placed around the lot at the corner of 8th Street and Harle Ave. Bryan Turner informed them that the property owner had placed that there to thwart illegal parking. The Board also inquired about the progression of work that is being done to 933 Harle Ave. Bryan Turner informed them that the property owner is currently working on the interior of the building. He told the Board that he would provide them with photographs of the continued progress. Hearing no other items of business Rufus Triplett made a motion to adjourned the meeting, and it passed unanimously.
