The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm by Mr. Brennan.
1. The August 27, 2015 minutes were reviewed and one correction will be made. Without a
quorum present, a vote was not taken. The minutes will be re-reviewed at the October 22
meeting.
2. Membership update was given by Mr. Brennan. Ms. Pat Noone had to resign. The students
who expressed interest were contacted, but no response has been received.
3. Treasurer’s Report was reviewed by Ms. Cooper. Vet services fund has a line item amount of
$3000; total expenditures year-to-date spent is $1460. The current balance in animal control
cost recovery is ($925); there is an unaccounted $5 adoption fee. The AWC fund raising account
has a balance of $10,577.
4. Shelter: The following animals were adopted: Red, Anna, Else, Madison, Azur (cats) and Pretty
(dog). No more animals have been taken in to the shelter.
5. The Committee will be present at the Farmer’s Markets in October: October 17 will be at REI
and October 25 will be at City Hall. Mr. Brennan and Ms. Gailes indicated they could be present
for both dates. Mr. Turley stated he will check his schedule. Mr. Brennan will email the dates to
the committee and will follow up with a schedule.
6. College Park Day is this Saturday, September 26 from 11am-3pm at Paint Branch Parkway. The
AWC will have a table and volunteers will be needed.
7. Based on the $5K grant received from Prince Georges County, the committee is interested in
updating the heating system in the shelter and potential re-sealing the floor. Ms. Cooper will
request, from City Hall, an engineer to look at the leak problem.
Mr. Brennan stated that he tried to schedule a meeting with Mr. Ryan, Sue Ellen and Steve to
discuss the correct procedures to follow for requesting monies from the fund raising account
and the grant to spend on needed items for animal welfare.
8. Ms. Anderson spoke to Ms. Cooper about have a table at Behnke’ Christmas Craft show as an
AWC fund raiser. Items sold in the past were dog beds, cat beds, cookies, etc. The committee
will discuss at the October meeting.
9. Ms. Cooper stated that there will be a Pet Friendly Plant Workshop on November 1 at Behnke’s.
There will also be a presentation on November 18 at Snyder Farms Days Inn House on Anti-
Abuse campaign to end animal cruelty. Registration fee is $20. Ms. Cooper also distributed a
Wild Life Advising Packet with a CD that was compiled by the Human Society.
10. The October shelter schedule had been emailed out by Ms. Bellamy.
11. The next meeting is scheduled for October 22 at 7:00pm in Davis Hall. Since the November and
December meetings fall on holidays, the date changes are as follows: Wednesday, November 18
at Davis Hall; Thursday, December 10 at City Hall Chambers.
Mr. Turley requested to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40pm.
