I. Call to Order
Mary Anne Hakes called the meeting to order at 7:09 p.m.
II. Approval of Minutes- March 2, 2022
Darlene Nowlin motioned to approve the minutes from March 2, 2022 as written .
Robert Thurston seconded the motion. All were in favor, none opposed. The m otion
passed.
III. City of College Park updates
1) Mary Anne Hakes provided city updates on behalf of Kiaisha Barber College
Park UMD partnership
a. The Neighborhood Preseveration Trust grant allotment for First-time
homebuyers was increased.
2) Pursuit of affordable housing for seniors
The committee discussed:
a. The city is exploring options to convert the lot (on Calvert Road &
Rhode Island Ave) using the Universal Design Concept
b. Exploring opportunities to gain support from The Neighborhood
Perseveration Trust to establish affordable housing for residents who
are aging in place.

3) City Staff
a. The city is recruiting a Racial Equity Officer
b. Youth and Family Services has acquired two new Case Workers
IV. Neighbors Helping Neighbors College Park (NHN-CP)
Janet Hawley provided an update about current goals and priorities.
A. Village Rides
1) Participation in required training to provide rides
1) Volunteer recruitment is underway
2) NHN-CP has identified potential residents to offer services to once volunteers
are secured.
V. AARP Livability update
A. AARP Livability kick-off event will be held in conjunction with the Friday Night Live
Summer Series 5/13/22 6:30 p.m.
1) Kiaisha Barber will follow with Kevin Blackerby about event participation, and
parameters. The committee is pursuing opportunities for volunteer recruitment
and promoting the current efforts of the Senior Advisory Committee, NHN-CP, and
the AARP Livability initiative during the event.
a. AARP Livability Consultants are available 5/4/22 to meet with the committee to
review elements of the draft action plan.
b. Next steps following the AARP Livability Kick -off event include meeting with
potential volunteers, has been rescheduled for 5/13/22.
VI. Expiring Appointments
A. Committee members with expiring terms have the option to re-apply to be committee
members. The following members have expiring terms at the end of June 2022.
1) Ann Bolduc
2) Mary Anne Hakes
3) Bonnie McClellan
B. Mary Anne Hakes announced upcoming elections for new Committee Co-chairs.
VII. Summer Events
The Committee discussed potential events to maintain visibility
A. Partnering with the city to sponsor a local blues event during the City’s Friday Night
Live Summer Series. Mary Anne Hakes will follow up with Kevin Blackerby
B. Partnering with College Park Scholars to host technology learning sessions
XI. Next Meeting: May 4, 2022, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
The committee discussed the AARP Livability Consultants attending the May meeting.
XII. Adjournment
Janet Hawley motioned to adjourn the meeting . Adele Ellis seconded the motion. All
were in favor, none opposed. The motion passed.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
