Robert Thurston X Also present : Guest Speaker: Lisa Walker, Hyattsville Aging in Place (HAP) Kiaisha Barber, Director of Youth and Family Services; Joi Woods, Contract Secretary Guest Speaker Presentation The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. The formal business meeting was postponed until after the presentations from the guest speaker. I. Lisa Walker, Hyattsville Aging in Place Lisa Walker provided an overview of Hyattsville Aging in Place (HAP)and the Hyattsville Age- Friendly Plan. Lisa Walker also offered recommendations to advance the AARP Livability initiative based on a review of the AARP Livability Draft Report along with questions and feedback from the committee. A. Beneficial partnerships 1) Habitat for Humanity- home maintenance and repair with 2) State program- Whole Home - grants and loans can be used for home upgrades & repairs 1  3) Silver Net- National Co-Housing support 4) Go-Go Grandparent-phone support for seniors to use Uber & Lyft B. Non-digital Communication and outreach strategies Lisa Walker shared strategies used in Hyattsville to connect with Senior residents. 1) The Hyattsville Reporter (formerly The Green Sheet)- a monthly newsletter with a section dedicated to Seniors and mailed to households by the City 2) Hyattsville Life and Times -Seniors’ Section 3) Monthly Informational meetings with focused topics  No in-person meetings have been held since COVID  Meetings were previously advertised by the city  Participant contact information was collected during the meetings 4) Email list serve  E-mail has been HAPP’s strongest mode of communication is seeking to launch active outreach to advertise direct services through direct mailings for members who do not have email addresses on file. C. Livability Program lessons learned -Working with Stakeholders Lisa Walker shared reflections on the early work with city representatives and stakeholders to increase to gain community feedback an city support. 1) Walker noted strong partnerships with local churches helped garner feedback about the Livability Program Draft Plan 2) A televised presentation of the Livability Draft Plan to the City council 3) City Relations  HAP maintains operations independent of the city to avoid conflict of interest  City Staff members offered support to the HAP initiatives of the Livability Program during its launch D. Membership Associations Lisa Walker shared an overview of associated organizations that support HAP’s initiatives 1) Washington Area Villages (WAV) 2) Aging in Place Prince George’s 3) Village to Village Formal Business Meeting I. Call to Order Mary Anne Hakes called the meeting to order at 8:15 p.m. 2  II. Approval of Agenda for November 2, 2022 Arelis Perez motioned to approve the agenda for November 2, 2022 . Carissa Janis seconded the motion. All were in favor, none opposed. The motion passed. III. Approval of Minutes- October 5, 2022 Arelis Perez motioned to approve the minutes from October 5, 2022, as written . Bonnie McClellan seconded the motion. All were in favor, none opposed. The motion passed. IV. College Park Day Debrie f The committee discussed highlights and considerations for improvement for College Park Day 2022 A. Lessons learned  Portable restroom placement in a central location would be ideal B. Future considerations  Marketing give-a-ways o ARRP Livability tote bags V. Clearinghouse & Brainstorming Session s A. The committee briefly discussed continuing the brainstorming sessions including meeting days, dates, and location 1) Upcoming meeting dates:  November 18, 2022  December 2, 2022  December 9, 2022 2) Kiaisha Barber will support the committee in identifying meeting locations VI. Neighbors Helping Neighbors College Park (NHN-CP) Update Carissa Janis provided a brief update about efforts to recruit volunteers. A. Carissa Janis expressed an interest in volunteering as a Program Manager to establish the organization’s structure and build capacity B. Volunteers 1) Current roster total; 14 volunteers that are not associated with the committee 2) Volunteer outreach and feedback VIII. AARP Livability The committee briefly discussed sharing the AARP Livability Draft Plan with Civic Associations throughout College Park for feedback. The AARP Livability Workgroup will review feedback and develop recommendations. A. Kiaisha Barber noted that draft agreement for partnership with Habitat for Humanity for home renovation and repair has been drafted. The AARP Livability Workgroup will have an opportunity to review the agreement before presentation to the Mayor and City Council. The partnership will allow for the allocation of funds. Some funds can potentially support the AARP Livability efforts and other SAC initiatives. B. AARP Livability Draft Plan – Public distribution and presentation The AARP Livability Draft Plan will be distributed to Civic Associations and other Advisory Boards via email with a message from the AARP Livability Subgroup. 3  Committee members discussed offering presentations to inform residents about the AARP Livability initiative and get feedback about the Draft Plan. IX. Other Discussion A. Annual reports due December 31, 2022 1) Committee Co-Chairs will draft a report and forward it to the committee for review, feedback, and comment. B. Committee Co-chair interest 1) Mary Anne Hakes invited members with an interest in co-chairing the committee to contact Kiaisha Barber. C. Reducing property taxes The committee briefly discussed the passing of legislation for a Senior Property tax credit 2) Dissemination information to senior Residents 3) Offering a workshop to support seniors completing applications for the tax credit X.
